Yes, I start thinking something terrible, for example that I'm going crazy and then I start following that idea, almost obsessing over it even though I know it's just anxiety or that it's irrational. I then throw myself into a panic attack. There are some techniques to help you when you're having these problems. Deep breathing, some relaxation techniques and even simply being aware of the anxiety help me. Preventing it is pretty hard if not impossible. I try to just deal with those thoughts as they come. I am able to prevent attacks pretty often these days simply with the techniques above, but sometimes it doesn't work. I still hate going outside and won't go out alone and often get so frustrated with the anxiety because I know it's irrational, that I just find myself rather depressed, but eh. I tried medication, but it just made everything worse and I did see a psychologist for cognitive behavioral therapy, but I stopped going after the first session. The guy wasn't telling me anything I didn't already know, so it was pointless.

You need to see someone to help you FEEL the truth... that there is nothing to worry about.
If there is a life after death, then of course, logically, you have nothing to fear.
But, if there was no life after death, then you have to understand that there'd still be nothing to fear. If that's the case, your mind itself is an illusion brought about by millions of cells firing in patterns, held together by molecules held together by atoms, etc, etc. Of course, this would mean that EVERYTHING you experience in general is also illusory, since there really is no YOU to experience it all, per se.
I believe in God precisely because I believe that there is a me who experiences things; I can't accept that the me-ness (for lack of a better term) is an illusion resulting from an accident of evolution.
What you want to do is get help to sort out what you believe, and if you need to, take a little medication to calm your nerves.

I know how you feel, man!!
There is a Bible verse that I have often quoted: "It is better to go to the house of mourning ( a funeral) than it is to the house of feasting (a party)". The thought is that it is better to go to a funeral than a party... because going to a funeral awakens us to the very thing you are talking about: that we are going to die, that the day is coming when you and I will no longer be able to type questions and answers like this, no longer communicate like this, and we will have to give up all that we see: family, friends, possessions, even our bodies!!! yikes!!
I agree: It can be a terriifying thing to think about.... We might die today!!
But, frankly, you are better off than all of those around you who are not considering these things! There is something within you that understands and is screaming out that this life is going to end and what is it all about and what happens and.....
The solution is, whether you can accept it or not, is to turn to God. Only as we reconcile ourselves to God, only as we turn to Him and ask forgiveness for our wrong-doings, only as we begin to learn who He is and how much He loves us and how He sent Jesus to conquer death for us when He died on the cross, etc. can we have peace about dying.
We are all going to have to make that journey. I, for one, want to be prepared. I hope you agree.
God bless!!
Please email me if you have questions!!

you will die, one day.
but between your birth & your death, you can make your life wonderful, constructively.
nobody can stop death, & nobody can stop time from ticking away...start living!
there are so many places to go, so many friends to meet, so many skills to learn, so many jokes to laugh, so many things to do, so why focus on something that will eventually come & you can't control- death?
BUT, what you can control is how happy you want to be.
