My daughters are 6,4 and 3 years old.Yesterday the oldest wanted some wine when she saw me drinking and I gave her.The younger girls also wanted some.I gave them drink half a glass and then nothing unusual happened. The girls were ok as usually. Why do most people say that children shouldn't be given wine?I don't think it's a good example to do something and at the same time to tell the kids not to do it.It's stupid to say "Don't see what am I doing, just listen what am I saying".If you drink, why don't you let your children drink?

Because they will get brain damage much sooner, because of drinking alcohol! They are still growing up, so this is not good. They can become alcoholics, because they get used to alcohol much to young. And what will happen, when they get children themselves? They will be born (brain!)damaged, because of this. Read more about this and you will find out.
I have seen some pictures, from baby's who were born with parents how drunk to soon and to much, from a very young age. No pretty sight, I can tell you!!!!!!!!!

Well you're last statement seemed to be the most ridiculous. If I smoke crack then it should be okay for my kids to smoke crack?????
The lesson for your girls here might have been. "drinking alcohol (a controlled substance) is something that only adults do...I am a grown person and you are a child...children should not ingest or use controlled substances. When you are grown you can make your own choice on this matter. But for now, I have to watch out for your best interests..and because of that you may not have any"
You know, letting a child, even at such young ages, drink any alcohol could cause the neurotransmitters to engage an addiction, why would you want to open that door for your innocent little babies? You have sex too, right???? Going to let them do that so you won't seem like a hypocrite????
Get a clue buddy!!!
Educate yourself on addiction before you start opening up a area of life you don't want to tread.
Their long term well being should be your best interest.

It is illegal to give a minor alcohol. Your children are exceedingly young for this. In some European countries a thimble of wine is given to children occasionally so that moderation is taught. However giving ine to someone 6, 4 or 3 is highly suspect and you should be reported. Given the fact that the child is still growing, their weight etc you might not SEE a response but the long term impact could be devastating. You need help if you think you can outwalk responsibility by reminding us of the do what I say not what I do arguement. Heres' a newsflash, try not drinking in front of the children, then you won't be tempted to provide your very young minors with alcohol. SHAME ON YOU

I think the main thing here is that it's illegal to give children alcohol. My son has taken a sip or two from my grandmothers glass or come across a glass and tried to take a swig. I usually wait to drink alcohol until after my son is in bed because I know he will want what I am drinking. But alcohol isn't good for their brain development and although wine is good for you in general (considering the antioxidants), I wouldn't give them wine. You might try filling a clean empty wine bottle with grape juice diluted with some water and give them that instead of wine. The fact is, as an adult you can drink alcohol but if you are under 21 in the US you can't and we all have to obey laws, so you might enforce that rule with them. It's also okay for adults to have sex but you surely don't want your kids doing it because they accidentally witnessed you and your husband in the act. I think it's important for kids and adults to understand that their are boundaries and laws. But heck who knows...back when my grandmother was a kid, she was given blackberry brandy when she was sick.

First off, one should not give a young child half a glass of wine to see whether it would affect her. How would you have felt if it affected her adversely?

Secondly, in my opinion there's nothing wrong with giving kids a small taste of wine or a 'spritzer' (a bit of wine in a glass of soda). It demystifies drinking and teaches them how to handle it responsibly & in moderation. One of the best ways to do this is for you to drink responsibly as well. Show them that drinking should NEVER be to excess!

It's no wonder that in our society there are so many young adults who abuse alchohol. It's dangled in front of their noses as forbidden fruit, and then, when they turn 21, it's almost a coming of age ritual to go out and get blotto. How stupid can we get?

I don't agree with you at all. You are giving them something that can hurt their developing brains. Alcohol kills brain cells. It is why you feel 'good' when you drink it. Plus, it is illegal to give alcohol of any kind to anyone under the legal age. If you happen to give them too much, you can cause them to have alcohol poisoning. This can kill them. No children, especially at those ages, should be drinking any kind of alcohol, even in small doses. It is a drug. Try this site for information that maybe you can understand:

You are the adult here, act like it.

Alcohol, which wine is quite high in, enters the bloodsteam very quickly travels to the brain and destroys braincells. Your children so young do not carry around the same amount of blood that you do, and it therefore does considerably more damage to their brain than it does to yours. Introducing alcohol over time so early to children also introduce a tolerance for alcohol to them, which can later affect kidney and liver - and much increases their chance of being an alcoholic in later life.

First of all, it's against the law to furnish liquor to minors. It may not have any adverse effects at that moment. If you do something, you should let your kids do it too? So, it's okay for them to drink liqour, have sex, and smoke? Just because you do something doesn't mean the kids have a right to too. You are an adult, they are children-children need guidence.

The correct term is "contributing to a minor" and it's not illegal if you're the parent giving it to your child in your own home. At the age of your daughters, I would not give it to them because they're not old enough to understand the responsibilities that come with drinking.

Don't tolerate that. do you know what a stalagmite or stalactite is, it form from the teeniest mineral specks and time will come that it will form to huge mineral formations. it would mean the same thing to your children. Time will come that they will not be able to control drinking wine in the future.
