if it was created by a creator, what then created the creator?
Our physics breaks down inside an Event Horizon so there's really no way of currently knowing as to how it formed. All we know is we're here, and by random chance.
Creationism is not a plausible explanation nor is "intelligent design."

The question does assume that it was created, and that there is therefore a creator. If you believe that god exists as some do then you probably believe that god exists in all places - which is omnipresence - that god is all knowing - which is omniscience - and all powerful - which is omnipotent. Is it easier to imagine all of that which they call god exists through all time and space with all power and knowledge with no beginning or end. Or to simply not wish for an overly simple awnser to a complex universe, you decide.

no one, this site provides a good explanation, that is pretty easy to understand. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Bang
life sprang from the natural propensity of molecules doing what the physical laws of the universe allow them to do. i won't say that life is inevitable, but if you bother to even superficially read up on organic chemistry, you wil realise that given the right conditions and time, you will get life. the idea that there must be a creator seems awfully strange, because who or what created the creator. the standard answer is, ' it always existed' defeats the whole point of the argument, except of course for people who need help tying their own shoelaces.

It is created because of mankind. It will be like that until people believe in GOD. GOD will destroy this unverse when no one believe in GOD that will be going to happen in near future and the event is called Doomsday..
41:9] Say, "You disbelieve in the One who created the earth in two days, and you set up idols to rank with Him, though He is Lord of the universe."*
[41:10] He placed on it stabilizers (mountains), made it productive, and He calculated its provisions in four days, to satisfy the needs of all its inhabitants.*
[41:11] Then He turned to the sky, when it was still gas, and said to it, and to the earth, "Come into existence, willingly or unwillingly." They said, "We come willingly."
------------------------------...
*41:1 For the significance of these Quranic Initials, see Footnote 40:1.
*41:9-10 The ``days'' of creation represent a yardstick. Thus, the physical universe was created in two days, while the calculation of provisions for all the creatures on earth required four. This also teaches us that there is life only on this planet Earth.
[41:12] Thus, He completed the seven universes in two days, and set up the laws for every universe. And we adorned the lowest universe with lamps, and placed guards around it. Such is the design of the Almighty, the Omniscient.

We are grateful to our parents for bringing us into the world. But our life actually did not come from them in the first place. They only passed life on to us, for with the Creator is the actual source of life. (Psalm 36:9) We also appreciate our parents for having provided life’s necessities. Yet, while these essentials were obtained by either their money or their labors, they did not create such needed things. Hence, we have much greater reason to feel indebted to our Creator.
Were it not for the One who created the earth and made all its provisions for sustaining human life, no amount of money or laborious effort could keep us alive. As the Christian apostle Paul pointed out to the Greeks in ancient Athens: “He [the Creator] himself gives to all persons life and breath and all things. For by him we have life and move and exist.”—Acts 17:25, 28.
Despite all that the Creator has done and is doing for mankind, millions today totally disregard him and certainly do not thank him for the numerous benefits they have received. Some, although grudgingly acknowledging that there must be a Creator, make little effort to learn more about him or his will. Others, numbering into the millions, even deny that there is a Creator, claiming that all things just came into existence by themselves. What shocking ingratitude! Such lack of appreciation is one of many indications that we are in “the last days.” (2 Timothy 3:1-5) Yet, we individually can and should be grateful to our Creator.

Question assumes the answer, so is invalid. The proper query is: how was the universe created? And that can be learned by studying the appropriate scientific subjects, which are far too long to include here.

Genesis 1:1-2
In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.
God the Father created this world, and the universe around it. =]
