I had a cyst before when I was around 5 years old and had to get surgery and it left an ugly scar, so are there any medications or anything that I can take to get rid of it?

it is more likely to scar if you try to get rid of it yourself.
have a doctor perform the excision and stitching. then use "Mederma"
it is an anti-scar ointment you can get at any drug store. it really works!

I have suffered through several Pilonidal Cysts in my life. I got my first when I was about 23 and my most recent when I was 36. Over the course of those 13 years I have had recurring flare ups. The worst was the most recent and the one I had 7 years ago. Surgery is not always the best option because it is very difficult to perform and not have it recur. I have found that the drain hole never really fully closes on mine. So it flares up a bit and then it drains. The problem comes when it doesn't drain periodically. Then the drain gets to fully heal and close. I have never been to a Dr for any of them. I just prepare for a rough week. I take lots of asprin (ibuprofen is great but sadly I developed an allergy to it when I was 33) Take lots of hot bubble baths. Use antibactirial soap for the bubbles. The hot water helps bring it to a head to get it to burst. Once it bursts it will drain for a couple days and then you will be fine. Make sure you keep that area very clean and dry to help keep them from coming back. Good Luck and I feel your pain. If it gets too bad just go to the Dr and get it lanced. Don't shell out big bucks for a surgery that may not last.

Nope -- surgery is the answer. I got a cyst on my finger from mosquito bites; the venom weakened the bursa at one joint and the fluid formed a cyst. It was necessary to open things up and cauterize the bursal extension to fix things. It healed up nicely; there is a small scar, but it is noticeable only if you look for it.
