I know you have to be 16 years old to solo a plane and 17 to get your certificate, but is there and age limit on what age you can take your written test?

I don't believe that there is an age limit to when you can take your written. I would suggest not taking it any earlier then 15 though. The reason for that is that the written is only valid towards your license for two years after you take the test. So if you took it before you were 15 it would not be valid when you go for your private pilots license when you were 17.

You can only take your written after your 15th birthday. But here is the fun part. Your test score is only valid for 2 years. The best thing to do would be take it when you turn 16 and start your flight training simultaneously. That way you have a year to accrue hours and be ready and your written won't expire.
