Beer contains Ethanol, or Ethyl Alcohol, ethanol is the chemical responsible for the intoxicating effect of Beer and other alcoholic beverages.
The answer to the other way your question could be interpreted is this: Beer tastes good when it is well made, and so it is enjoyable not only as a beverage but also for its intoxicating effect.

because of the alcohol context in the beverage if you don't want to get drunk of beer so easily you should drink "light" beer which contains less alcohol, you can get beverages that taste exactly like beer but with no alcohol

its not as harsh as hard liquor. it is a little easier on the liver.
