My cat is about 2 1/2 months old. His eyes has recently been iritated. It has a runny puss, a little red and will not open all the way. Otherwise, he does not seem affected by this. He is eating normally and is playing normally. I dont know what this could be or if i should take him to the vet right away.

Yes! It could be an infection, herpes (cats can get herpes - and it can show up in their eyes or nasal passages), or possibly an irritaion- but you should have it checked out anyway. You should at least call your vet, and see what they say about it.

Definitely bring him to the vet, if you had a puss filled eye, even if it wasn't irritating you you'd stil probably want to check it out with your GP, so do the same thing for the cat as it is better to be safe than sorry. My kitten got sick, and I thought it would be ok, but in the end I decided to bring her to the Vet and it was a good thing I did as the vet said that if I hadn't, she would have got even sicker. Even if your cat isn't showing signs of distress now, it may do in a week or so, so get it checked before it possibly gets any worse.

You should definitely take your kitten to the vet as soon as you can. He either has a blocked tear duct or an eye infection (or both). A vet will be able to help you with either of these problems. If money is a concern, there are many vets that work at discount or "rescue" rates. A quick web search of your city should provide some help.

I agree with everyone who says "take it to the vet" but if you do not have the possibility to do so for a while this is what I suggest: Boil some water for 5 minutes to make sure it's disinfected. Let it get cold. Then dip a piece of gas sterile and wipe around his eyes a couple of times a day. Cats have a fine immune system and he'll recover soon.

Sounds like your kitten may have conjunctivitis or some other type of eye infection. Conjunctivitis is very contagious, if you have children or other animals they can get infected by being around your kitten. Take the cat to the vet and get the medicine it needs so you don't have to worry about it. Better for both of you when the cat is healthy.

You should definitely take him to a vet; eye infections are very common in cats and are usually part of an upper respiratory infection. You can gently clean his eyes with warm water and a cotton ball or soft cloth; don't force them open. Your vet can make a diagnosis and get you some antibiotics if appropriate.

Are his shots up to date?

If his eyes are irritated, red and have puss running from them it's a sure sign of infection. What caused that you won't know until you have it checked out by someone who does know. Infections will not go away by themselves, you can swap the eye area with warm water to remove any build up that might crust on the edge of the eye but your kitty needs antibiotics to make this go away.

Hey Melissa! Take him to the vet, but until you get there use a warm water compress (wash cloth, wring it out) and gently wipe the puss out of it (take a picture of it before you do to show the vet) and let it set there for a few minutes. Don't make it too warm or hot. Good Luck!

I would take the kitty in. It could be allergies, it could be a scratch.. My puppy (not really a puppy, shes 15 but still my baby!!) was having trouble with her eye so the vet took it out for her.. there are options though.. they can get samples and send them in to see what it could be.. but the best thing is to have a GOOD vet decide.. but better take him in, better safe than sorry.. good luck!

Yes bring the cat to the vet it might be an infection (conjunctivitis), if left untreated the cat might end up blind.
Until then wipe GENTLY her eyes with a warm washcloth.
