When I was a teenager I used to listen to music with swears in it, I still do. It hasn't made me a bad person or something lol. I think I would encourage my kids to know that these words are bad and they shouldn't be repeating them at school, at work, etc. But the problem is, parents don't have the time to sit down with their kids and monitor every CD or song on the radio/tv all day. Kids are going to hear these words everywhere anyway.

Its all depends on how old your kids are because if they're in high school like me they are going to hear curse words 24/7 from teachers and from students. Im only 16 but if I had kids i'd show them the "no words" and tell them the difference between good words and bad. Music is ok, sometimes but if its an abundant amout of cursing then its not good<--they might pick up the bad language but a little cursing nerver hurt anyone =]

My daughter is 5, so I don't really have to deal with that yet... thank God. However, it sounds like your Mom is being sensible. generally speaking, if kids want to listen to a certain type of music, band, or song... they'll find a way to listen to it. As long as the child or teen in question has a "good head on their shoulders" and demonstrates a good maturity level for their age... usually they can handle something so trivial as stupid, most likely overrated swear words.

It depends on the song and the context. I don't think there is anything wrong with it as long as your kids understand that they're not to repeat them. Sometimes I think it's a good thing to expose kids to that, because I was home schooled for a large part of my life as a kid-and going to public school not knowing what kids meant by what they said was a big handicap for a while.
Good Luck!!

In my opinion, swear words are not the problem. It's content that matters. For instance, I don't have a problem with Green Day using the F-word in one of their songs, because they're not being vulgar. On the other hand, you take an artist like Eminem who writes grossly disturbing lyrics about suicide and drugs, and I wouldn't want my kids listening to it.

But for the record, I don't have kids and I like Eminem. So maybe my opinion doesn't mean much to you.

My mom is alright with it too. I think that its good for kids to experience all sorts of music, even if certain kinds of music promote swearing and other bad things. As long as the children know that its bad, its ok.

Well considering music with "swear words" has been around alot longer than probably YOUR parents...Yes I allowed my daughter to listen to music with "swear words" because when I was a young teen I listened to music with "swear words". and I'm 53 years old.

i think its OK as long as it doesn't have repeating swear words throughout the whole song. my 14 year old daughter has a couple of Cd's that have swear words in it.

Depends on the age of the kid. I didn't let my kids until they were about 12. Same deal, though. I don't want to hear them repeating what they've heard.

growing up my mom did not allow songs with swear words we listened to her stations (oldies) in the car and she watched what CD we bought. I would sneak them from friends and listen with head phones
