It depends on the quality.
During the aging process, very high quality cognac has aged between 50 and 75 years.(about $2000 a bottle)

here at my place, if you open a bottle of cognac, it's life span would be around 20 minutes. LOL

you have years before cognac goes bad. I would bet that it gets better with age.
