Actually, it was originally a .25 Beretta, but it jammed on him and he spent 6 monthes in the hospital, prompting the introduction of the Walther PPK. However, Walther came out with a new "whisbang" for Tomorrow never dies, apparentally, James Bond is most definately for sale because he's been carrying the Walther P99 ever since.
The thing I hated was that Casino Royale was supposed to be a "prequel" so where the hell was the .25 Beretta? Even the PPK???

its a walther P99. dr. no was the first james bond movie, so his gun couldnt have malfunctioned in from russia with love causing him to get a new one in Dr. No. good job failing. he has a .25 caliber beretta model 1934 in the beginning of Dr. No, which is replaced by a Walther PPK all the way up to Tomorrow Never Dies, where he gets the "new Walther" which he uses through Casino Royale.
that was the thing that got me about Casino Royale. it was supposed to be before all the other bond movies, but was the director too goddamn lazy to make a late 50's/early 60's era set or what?

in the beginning of Ian Fleming's James Bond novels , 007 carried a Beretta .22 handgun. In the film Dr. No, Bond is given a Walther PPK or Walther P .38 handgun to replace the Beretta .22 after it misfired in From Russia With Love

All the newer James Bond movies have the Walther P99 as his weapon. The originals up through "Goldeneye" he uses the Walther PPK.

Bond uses Walther (German) made handguns exclusively. He had a Walther p99 in the last flick. Prior to that it was the Walther PPK. I haven't seen it yet so I don't know which he's using.

He is and has always carried a Walther.
Just remember you can not shot deadly accurate shots at 300 yards while carrying a hot babe over your shoulder. All the while under a hail of automatic weapons fire while wearing a tux.
Your human like the rest of us. 40 yards is the reasonable limit of accurate shooting with that gun.
