Jedi Knights have official recognition as a religion and they are on the register of religions they are also the third largest religion in UK after Christianity and Islam.
Do you perhaps just have to say you really really believe faithfully in whatever and get a reasonable group of people who also are willing to state the same? I don't know but it might be worthwhile investigating how Jedi Knights managed it.

Not the official definition, Religion or Belief may be loosely described as “any religion, religious belief, or similar philosophical belief, excluding any philosophical or political belief unless that belief is similar to a religious belief.”

A court or tribunal might consider indications of a religion or a belief under the terms of legislation as: (abridged version; original script is extremely verbose in olde Inglish)
- collective worship;
- place of worship or duty to worship to a higher calling;
- clear structure and belief system;
- in prior existence for as long as time immemorial;
- profound belief affecting way of life, or world view.

The rights backed by Act on anti-discriminatory practices in relation to employment and training on the grounds of religion or belief:
- Equality Act 2006 (England)
- Racial and Religious Hatred Act 2006 (England)
- Employment Equality (Religion or Belief) Regulation 2003 (England)
- Fair Employment and Treatment Order 1998 (Northern Ireland)
- Tax laws as provided for under the Charity Commission's “CC21 Registering as a Charity”

Approval and changes require discussion (1) at the appropriate court level which considers local legislation, contribution from existing religions and beliefs, and what used to be at the highest level the Church and Monarch.
