My hair is long, semi thick and naturally curly/wavy.
The ends are really dry and brittle, but I'm planning on getting them cut off anyway.

I'm looking for a really good straightener. I have a crappy conair one, it doesn't do a thing.

I want something that isn't terribly harmful to my hair, will keep it straight for a really long time, and not take a million hours to do.

I'd also like an idea on what kind of products to get for it, like a balm and stuff.

Please post with the straightener, price, brand/type of balm + other stuff needed. thankssss.

A flat iron (straightener or steamer straightener) may not give you the results you seek as straighteners in general do not work on all hair types. And when you do manage to get your hair straightened the way you like it after spending a long time smoothing each section one at a time, it can easily become wavy or frizzy at the slightest level of humidity.

You might want to look into thermal reconditioning as a more permanent straightening solution.

I have naturally thick, wavy, curly hair too and I use a very big, thick round brush and a hair dryer. I also use a cuticle straightener (Scruples hair polish) to make it lie down flat before and after straightening. It took me awhile to learn the technique. I went to a salon to get it done for awhile, but I can do it myself now. There is also a semi-permanent way to get it done but I would go to a pro to do it for me. Find a stylist you like and make her (or him) your best friend until you find the way that makes you happy. It will cost you some money, but it will be worth it in the end.

Me too; the best hair straighter is like gold flat irons. You should get some john freda products they really work.! And remember to cut those ends they will not look cute once you hair is straigh.

The best straightener, would have to be the CHI.
It is pricey (about a couple hundred), but I am telling you, it is sooooo worth it!
It works wonders!!
Either the CHI or Maxiglide. Both are awesome!
