I have a couple questions
1. Is there a way to cheat out the pain just a little like doing something before i getting it done?
2.what the best way to take care of it?
3.would i be laying down to getting it down or in a chair?

1. i am a tattoo artist, and the most important thing i can say is PLEASE DON'T DRINK before you get it done. yeah it might make it hurt less, but you should realize it will make you bleed more due to thining out your blood and too much blood rejects ink and it will frustrate your artist, trust me.

tylenol is safe to take, but no aspirin or ibuprofin, they also thin blood. lidocain is sometimes made available, it is a topical anaesthetic but is expensive and the bottom line is, a lot of people believe you should earn your tattoo. and the pain is really not all that bad. just breathe and relax.

2. i have care instructions on my website, but your artist should give you pointers as well, every artist has different ways they believe their tattoos will heal well.

REFUGEINK.COM

enter the site and on the main page there is care instructions if you scroll down in the little window in the middle of the page.

3. every artist is different, but most will have you straddle a chair and bend over. the reason for this is the lower back is hard to stretch and if you lay down it caused more work for the artist because they will have to hand stretch the skin as they tattoo. if you bend over you're doing half the work by stretching your own skin so that helps a lot.

also, do this because you want to do it. if people think it's played out, that's really none of their concern. it's your body and you know what's best for it. good luck.

Honey; if you really really want it, have wanted it for a long time and known and wanted your design for a long time - don't let anyone saying things like 'trampstamp' put you off. There's a whole (extremely large) community of tattooed and non tattooed people who don't judge you by what you choose to do with your body.

That said; i wouldn't try to 'cheat' the pain at all. a) you don't want to risk your tattoo/thinning your blood and b) it's part of the ritual of tattooing. It makes it memorable; you work (sort of, suffer i guess) a little for your art. Plus it's not all that painful anyways. Just follow whatever aftercare advice your tattoist recommends; if they have a particular lotion - buy it - they're not just making extra cash off you. And c) - I was sitting in a chair leaning over. It seems sitting down is done too - but the reasoning behind what the tattoist said seems rational to me. Good luck!! Post a piccie somewhere so the netbased tattoo community can check it out once it's done :)

I have one on my lower back (above the waist line so it's not considered a 'tramp stamp' ) and the only place it really hurt was over my spine. But, after the initial line, I didn't feel much because I knew what to expect as far as the pain was concerned. It just depends on your pain threshold, and if you can sit still or not. Good luck! If this is your first tat, make sure what you get means something to you, so you don't regret it later in life. Example: I met an old lady in a nearby nursing home that had a little red devil figure on her lower arm. I guess she saw me looking at it and all she said was, "Ironic that it's a devil because I've gotten nothing but hell about it since I turned 30." and kept walking.

OK First drink alot of J D shots before you go have it done and maybe a few pain pill tabs, don't worry you wont O D The best way to take care of it is to not get it..Yes you would be lying down to have it put on you. Remember a lower back tattoo is known as a TRAMP STAMP . GOOD LUCK TATTOO ON

There's nothing wrong with getting a lower back tattoo. I have one and I'm NOT a tramp. I'm married and faithful to my husband. I have his initials under my tattoo. I hate when people use such stupid terms to describe someone that way. Usually it's because they don't have the nerve to do something like that. Tattoos are considered taboo. Make your own decisions and don't let anyone talk you into or out of what you set your mind to do.

Is this your first tattoo? I have 3 and my lower back piece was my last...it did not hurt, so much as feels like a really bad sunburn.
You can not really cheat by doing anything ahead of time, and if you seem to be on drugs or drunk, a good tattoo artist will NOT work on you. Just try to relax, take a deep breath and go for it.

There are many schools of thought on taking care of the tattoo, take the advice of the artist, that way, if you have a problem, you know you have done whatever he or she asks...but definately do not go swimming or tanning any time soon after it. ;-) some places say wash it every day, some say do not get it wet for a week..some put on a lotion that you can wash and it keeps dryish ( like vaseline) and others say to put on lotion 5 times a day...

I had mine done laying down, but depending on how far up or down you are getting it, they may do you seated.

Best advise, LOL buy some maternity pants to wear if it is on your lower back. mine was right about the point where my panties and jeans would rub against it and for the first few days it drove me NUTS! I got my boyfriend to go get me a pair of cheap baggy maternity pants from Wal-Mart and wore them pulled up to under my boobs, so there was nothing rubbing it. I looked like a dork for a few days when I had to go out, but now the tat is wicked cool.

If your doing it in remembrance to your sister I would suggest getting a pair of baby feet prints with her name and date of death tattooed on your shoulder blade. I have a lower back piece but its more of a decorative tribal design, which i think looks best in that area. I sat in a chair when mine was done but if you start feeling light headed, speak up and ask to lay down or you could face plant onto the floor. As for pain, theres not much you can do expect for taking Tylenol before hand. Also. DO NOT drink any alcohol before getting this done. It thins your blood and you will bleed more. As for care of that tatt. Wash it with anti-bacterial soap and apply a ointment like A & D to it so it stays moist, you dont want it to scab. Also dont pick it, you'll pull the color out. Good Luck

My first tattoo was on my lower back and it hurt like hell! I really don't think there is anything you can do to help numb the pain. You just have to suck it up. And make sure you don't drink any alcohol before hand. That will thin your blood and make you bleed more.
The best way to take care of it would be to wash it twice a day with anti bacterial soap. Like dial. And apply something like neosporin or A&D ointment.
When I got mines done, I was sitting backwards in the tattoo chair. Depends on how the tattoo artist is comfortable though.

I got my on my lower back.....while i got it done i was straddling a chair and he was sitting behind me while i faced a TV......they gave me candy so that i could concentrate on that instead of the pain....it wasn't that bad i have felt worse.....its like a vibrating annoying pain....not anything to drastic. To take care of it i wore alot of loose shirts so that when i put the ointment on it it would not rub all over the shirt (but it still did on the loose shirt) i had to sleep on my stomach for a little while until it healed some what....but its tricky because you don't want your paints to be rubbing against it all day either.

i got one!! and it depends on what you get because i got the puerto rican flag on my lower back becuz im puerto rican and like they did the outline first and it hurt really bad!! but then they put on numbing stuff. and it didnt hurt at all with the numbing gel so just tell them ur scraed it will hurt and ask if they will put on it and you take care of it by. you have to keep it covered for like a day and then you wash it and use anti bacterical soap and it wil startt to peel eventually and you shouold use vasline and just put it over it for a while cuz it will feel dry and nasty but DONT PEEL IT URSELF it wil fall of naturally if you peel it urself your tatto will be all fcuked up. and yeah it hurts but in the end its all worth it!! and it might not hurt you it just depends on how well you can take pain and no your not laying down you just sit on the chair and turn so ur back isnt against the chair. i want another one && i love mine soo much! so good luck!! have fun && enjoy itt!!!
