Happy thanksgiving.

I'm so annoyed now and any advice or help is appreciated...

I'm a NY driver and was driving to Vegas from Laughlin, NV. The cop pulled me over and said I was doing 101 on a 65...I knew that I was speeding but unsure how fast. I was just stupid, plain.

On the summon it classifies as G - must show up in court for reckless driving.
Well....I live in NY, 2500 miles away. My 'court date' is Jan 05, 2007. I called up the court and there is always an answer machine,
here is my question:

- Do I have to come to NV again for the court?

- How about if I hire an attorney, can he represent me to court?

Any other options?

Many thanks

There should be a place on the ticket somewhere that tells how much the fine will be. Just pay it and be done with it. Then you can watch your auto insurance rates go up, but they will anyway, so you may as well pay it and chalk it up to being a bad experience.

You have to appear in court for this charge. Reckless driving - where you were going in excess of 35 mph over the speed limit - is not a charge you can just plead to and pay a fine.

You will be very lucky if you don't end up doing jail time in Nevada.

No, a reckless driving court appearance is going to make him face a judge. If he was doing up to 20 mph faster, then it wouldn't be reckless driving, it would be a regular pay-by-mail speeding ticket.

You CAN hire a lawyer in Nevada to represent you for cheaper than flying back for your court date. Do a Google search on Nevada Speeding Ticket and find a lawyer who can better answer your
questions - and possibly represent you.

If you have Pre-Paid Legal or ARAG legal services, I would contact them for free advice. If not, you may have to do a little "cold calling".
