Why are there so many people that believe in God just because the people they were raised by do? If all logic and basic reasoning tells us he's not real, why do people waste their whole lives basing themselves around some mythical supernatural being?

What reasoning tells you God is real? And although some people go to Christianity on their own to say they are not influenced by the people that raised them is just wrong. Most parents that are devout Christians have sons and daughters that devout Christians. I for one have been given the right to choose my religion by my family. My mom, dad, and two sisters are all Christians but I'm not. I just think more families should give their kids a choice to choose.

Now what reasoning points to god. The fact that are dna strands are just a few percentages off from a dolphin. And if I made a book called the "Holy book that you should believe in" would you believe in it also just because? Stop using the justification that "ITs in the bible so it must be real." There is nothing to prove that it is real. I have turned from Christianity to become a strong supporter of Skepticism.

BTW, second to last post wtf do you mean money isn't real. Money is tangible existence while even God can't boast that. Although real is how we perceieve things, money is easily more "real" than god.

Environment must have a lot to do with what people believe in and why. Not just in the home growing up, but with all these religious things that are pushed on society (like christmas, easter and all that).
I am very surprised by the answers that you have got saying logic and reasoning doesn't count for anything when faith does. I've never heard such crap. It appears to be a lot of brainwashing over the thousands of years by these corrupt organisations.
How so many people can be devoid of such logic and reasoning is quite saddening. We are a far more intelligent and informed as a society and able to make our own choices. This couldn't be done when these religions were originally thought up, in order to control the masses.
I don't know why people waste their time worshipping a mythical being. Why they don't put their time to better use, like helping their follow man (or woman), instead of following a fairy tale book.

Wow, I was talking with some friends from church recently about this. I also had this feeling deep inside, "what if God didnt exist?" We talked for hours, debating on facts. Our conclusion: Yes, God exists. I'll try to give you some insight on what we went over.

Ok, let's not get too complicated and just give an everyday example. Suppose you got home today, and there was this beautiful chocolate cake with icing and everything, on top of ur table. Now, we have 2 theories of where that cake came from:

1) There was an HEB truck this afternoon going by ur house, and all of a sudden, a car hit it at 70mph, and the truck rolled over violently. There were eggs, flour, all sorts of stuff in the truck, and they all got mixed up in the crash, and the truck caught on fire, and the extreme heat baked all that stuff, and as the truck continued to roll on the street, the stuff flew through ur window and miraculously landed on ur table.

2) Someone who knew how to bake a chocolate cake, went there and did it, and then put it on top of ur table for you.

Which one makes more sense? If you answered #2, good! Then God created the Earth and everything in it. If you prefer to believe in an absurd and very creative theory called "the big bang", in which somehow gases mixed up, just in the right proportion, and then everything exploded and the earth was formed ... my friend, you have a very creative mind. First of all, how were those gases there? Someone must have created it. God. Stuff doesn't just appear.

=D Doesn't that make sense? Ok, now, let's get a lil more complicated.

Scientists say that man evolved from monkeys or whatever their creative mind came up with. Well, it has been proven that over time, living beings only lose genetic material, constantly. Therefore, evolution cannot be possible. The human body is so complex, there is no way it just "evolved" from something. A project called GENOMA, just recently finished their research. Their task: make a complete mapping of the human DNA. Many countries joined forces to complete this project, each taking a body part, like arm, leg, or whatever, and finding out the DNA code for it. Germany was in charge of the human eye. At the end of the project, they said that the human eye was so complex, that there was NO WAY it could have evolved from some other animal. It's a fact. Scientists researched and wrote it down. Aren't they contradicting themselves now? Ok, I believe I made a point on this one. Mankind did not evolve. God made man in His image.

Ok, now back to the big bang stuff. The NASA has been measuring the distance from the Earth to the moon, and it's a fact that every year the moon gets further and further away from the Earth. Fact. It's been proven. It's also a mathematical equation. So, if we take that mathematical equation, and do it backwards, we come up with how long since the earth and the moon we're almost touching. The calculations say something about 10 thousand years. It can't be more than that, otherwise the moon would have been rolling around on the earth.

Also, it's possible to calculate the rate of aging of the Earth. Every year, scientists calculate the rate at which the Earth is aging. It's roughly the same. If we then backtrack how long since the Earth was relatively "new", the calculations vary from 10 to 12 thousand years. It's fact.

Also, the population of the Earth. Today, we have roughly 6.5 billion people alive. Populations, increase in a mathematical progression. In other words, there will always be more people alive today, than there are people dead. Fact. It's not possible to have more people dead than alive. Draw a sketch of a simple family tree, and you'll stumble upon the same conclusion. So, if we backtrack how long since the beggining of population, the results say somewhere between 10 to 12 thousand years.

Every fact that we can backtrace, falls upon the same range. 10 to 12 thousand years. In other words, the Earth is relatively new, not millions of years old as some scientists say.

So, why would scientists not agree with this? Why would they come up with these ridiculous theories about some big bang or whatever? The answer is simple. At the very moment that they agree that there is an all-powerful being, a God, that created everything we know, they realize all their sins. At the moment they realize their sins, they know that they'll have to eventually have a commitment and a close relationship with God. They don't want any commitments to anyone. So what's the easy way out? Make up some random theories that we evolved from monkeys and that the Earth just happens to have been created randomly by a Big Bang, that they themselves can't explain how it supposedly happened.

I sincerely hope this has opened your eyes to the truth. Thanks for reading this, and I really hope that you now accept the commitment that God wants you to have with Him. If you're already commited with God, then I hope this text has restrengthened your faith.

God Bless all of you, and have a great day.

People who really believe in God do so because they know He exists. Their reasoning and logic tells them that every house has a builder and all forms of intelligent design have a designer. He is not a mythical being to us. He is the Father who hung the stars and revealed to the prophet Isaiah in chapter 40:22 that "He sits enthroned above the circle of the earth, and it's people are like grasshoppers. He stretches out the heavens like a canopy, and spreads them out like a tent to live in." Please take note that God revealed the earth was a circle way before science ever come to that conclusion. I remember being taught in school that at one time they thought the earth was flat ,and if they went beyond a certain point they would fall off! If they would have only read the Bible, God would have told them the earth was a circle. There is plenty of logic and reasoning that point to our Creator. The one that says we were made in God's image is the one that hits home for me. Since we are made in God's image, this would give us higher qualities than animals. Take for instance the quality of justice. Do you see the animals worrying about justice? No, because we were made in His image, not animals. The list goes on and on. Please do not consider it a waste of my life because I choose to worship and give thanks with my life to the One who created me. Remember, Einstein aknowledged his Creator. I would say that reasoning was a very developed ability for Einstein. Just because you do not believe will not excuse you on judgment day. So, please do not dismiss the evidence around you that points to a loving and kind Creator who wants you to know Him.

The bible was written and expressed through man.

"The word of God revealed in the Bible is expressed in the imperfect language of ordinary people but in nature gods truth is revealed more perfectly in a language that can be learned by careful observation and scientific reasoning"
-Galileo

The same reason people spend thier entire life working for money which isn't real either.

Mostly out of convenience and/or laziness. Think about it. Can you ever walk a block or two the moment you step out of your house without running into a church? Most people don't want to search too hard to find spirituality, so these mainstream religious leaders build a number of churches in each town and neighborhood. For those who want to look for other belief systems that don't make it that easy or convenient to join (ex. Druidism, Wiccan, and Pagan belief), it's depends on whether the individual wants to "think outside the box" and have the desire to search for them.

I personally think its harder Not to believe in some sort of God.

I am one who believes in a God, The God that Jesus Christ Claimed to be. According to His word. We(Humans) are all equiped with a Soul and Spirt, and Its our Spirt that tells guides us right and wrong and points us to God and his creation, almost as if its part of our DNA. WHich is why there are More people who believe in a HigherPower than those who do not. Seriously How else do you think we Got here? How can something exsist from nothing?

because it's human nature and how we are being nurtured. in my opinion, Gos's existence is something that should not be questioned. whether you are a christian, muslim, or a buddhist, you should juz stick with it. at least you have something to believe in. rather than living aimlessly in life. at some point, something must have start from nothing. logic reasoning and religious belief should not be mixed.

In the end, it's easier to believe that an all-powerful being is looking out for you and sanctioning your chosen belief. It takes away the fear of the unknown and the burden of coming up with your own answers to life.

But all reasoning and logic points straight to Him. Theres proof everywhere, even if someone refuses to look at it. A Christian has not wasted their life if they have lived by the laws of their God. Love everyone, strive for peace, give food to the hungry, clothing to the naked...how is this a wasted life?

God bless,
Shane
