You can tear a muscle easy now, your tummy is not totally healed yet, even though the incision is healed. Keep a pillow close by, and hug it tight to your abdomen before you cough, it will help keep you from injuring yourself.

Staresa,
Any interabdominal surgery can cause scar tissue formations called "adhesions". These are large buildups of scar tissue at the site of healing from the incision. You could have an adhesion that limits the movement in that area that is becoming sore from the mechanics of coughing. There are other things that can cause these symptoms, so take your temperature often and go to the ER or Urgent Care if you spike a temp., or if the pain becomes severe.
Deb's advice about holding a pillow tight when you cough is EXACTLY RIGHT. Also, it never hurts to drink a lot of water, and do something to stop the coughing, like cough syrup with dextromethorphan in it.

Although you had the surgery 3 months ago, the body still produces bile and Gallstones are still likely to form. These stones can lodge in the common bile duct, just like when you had the gallbladder problem. You may want to have this checked. Contact the surgeon that performed the surgery and make an appointment or go to the closest ER and have yourself examined.
