I want a small dog (so it won't bite) that won't need too much help taking a walk. I would like the type to be friendly and easy to train. It wouldn't need too much help "cleaning up" also.

"I want a small dog (so it won't bite)" Then stay away from Chihuahuas and Yorkies. Many of the "pocket sized" breeds are notorious for being nippers. Perhaps because they're so small they're worried about getting stepped on. There are several good small breeds that you have little worry of them even biting. However, don't assume because it's small it's not capable of being just as ferocious as a pitbull. :) Shih Tzu's are wonderful dogs. They're gentle, small, loving, they don't need a lot of room to run around so they're prefect for apartments. The only possible drawback I can think of is their coat must be brushed regularly. Although, I always gave mine a lion cut and she loved it. Good luck on your search.

I have a 4 month old Bichonpoo (photo at left). She is real cute, very smart, easy to train, only weighs 5 lbs will be about 10 lbs when full grown so she doesn't need a lot of exercise. Still requires walks. She potty trained easy and her messes were small. She doesn't shed so there is no hair problem. She gets along with everyone. She does nip like any puppy but I have trained her to stop when I say "no bite" and she replaces the nips with puppy kisses. She is a great dog.

Truthfully, all dogs can bite, but if you want a small dog, go with a dog breed call a Lhasa Apso. They dont shed cause they're fur is very human like, they are very loyal. They will pick a certain person and just kind of latch on to. They are also very protective for that person. They're small, so they dont need that much exercise, but they still like to play with you, though they enjoy just chillin on the couch with you.

Anyways, Good Luck To You, and i hope you find the perfect dog for you.

Stuffed.

Dogs can't live off love alone!

All dogs can bite regardless of size. All dogs need walks. Dog aren't friendly just cuz they're small and all dogs need to be cleaned up after as well as bathed and trimmed (nails). Not to mention housebroken, trained, vaccinated, de-wormed, and get regular exams from a veterinarian.

The best dogs I have ever had were mutts. One was a terrier mix female when I was a kid who absolutely had a heart of gold. The second is currently my brother's dog, Bill, a german shepard/lab mix. He's got the most personality I have ever seen a dog have and he's smart as I'll get out. As far as purebreds go, our Lab we used to have was a pretty good dog, but kinda dumb. We still have a siberian husky, turning 12 this year and as hyped up as he was when he was a pup. Very hyper dog though. Thats about all i know.

If you want a dog that doesn't need you for anything than get a stuffed animal or an iDog for crying out loud!!
Dogs require love, attention, and poop pick up.
It sounds to me like you are the kind of person who wants to be a dog lover and owner but just don't care to be at the sametime.

i think you should get an older dog, you can rescue one petco has adoptions on saturdays usually or go to petfinder.com this way you could meet the dog and get to knows its personality.

puppies poop alot inside while they are still learning! how well your dog is trained depends alot on you, how much time you devote and how much exercise he gets. dogs left to sit around the house all day get bored and can be destructive. dogs cost alot of money so sont get one unless you are prepared for a 15 year commitment

If you cannot afford to spend time playing and walking a dog, then do not get one. They need love and attention, and it is unfair for them to be alone all day, and you expect the dog to take basically take care of itself.

In my experience, small dogs are more aggressive than large dogs. They bark and yip incessantly, and seem to have "little man syndrome." You should get a lab.
