I think religion IS on its way to extinction... and, as I see it, there is very little doubt about it.!

The reasons are plentiful but the most serious is that no two seem able to exist side-by-side in peace. Read your history from its beginnings right through the current age and you'll see that this is true.

CURRENT STATISTICS: http://net-burst.net/hot/facts.htm

"The U.S. Center for World Mission estimated in 1997 that Christianity's total number of adherents is growing at about 2.3% annually. This is approximately equal to the growth rate of the world's population. Islam is growing faster: about 2.9% and is thus increasing its market share. At this rate, Islam would surpass Christianity as the world's main religion by 2023 CE."

Religion isnt even close to extinction. There may be more atheists now than there were 100 years ago but there are more religions all over the world than there has ever been.

i'm no longer sensible average. i will see your idea, although the Abrahamic faiths were the first to really instill the "be reliable, or your afterlife will suck." Many polytheistic faiths had a reliable position and a foul position- sure, yet there have been many techniques to get into the reliable position, reckoning on which deities you hung round. Worship a "darker" deity, or a chaos deity, and also you would possibly want to ruin out with a lot extra and nevertheless get into the 'reliable position.' i surely imagine that everybody has someplace to bypass even as they die, depending off of the doctrine they save on with. and those who don't have a doctrine? perchance there is an "open" afterlife for whoever, or they purely get reincarnated. Or we purely die. both way, i think of their gadget is a touch backwards.

The Church is becoming a remnant because people are too busy with their own lives. They have forgotten to put God first in their lives. They have lost the reason we have been put on earth: which is to know Him, to love Him, and to serve Him in this world, and to live forever in Heaven with Him. The Church will never die, because Jesus said, "I will be with you even unto the end of time". The Church may be hard to find but she is out there and will always be there. Just keep looking.

Religion will never be extinct as long as there are enthusiastic egomaniacs who want to build, grow, and maintain empires.

People do not follow you or agree with you because you are smart or honest; They agree with you if you are enthusiastic.
