yes, my cockatiel thinks i am its mum, becuase we got it when it was about a week and a half old. it now thinks not only i am its mum, but it is human. apparently being human gives it rights to eat anything off our plates without our say-so. but then again, our bird is also called the 'blonde to end all blondes' cause she tries to fly through a window into the house and wanders what she hit. my other cockatiel accidentally hits a window, and knows there's glass there.

all birds, and just about any pet, have a maturnal instinct that works one of two ways, they will mother you or desire to be mothered by you, did you know you over time can train almost any bird to listen to your comands and do what your wanting them too. start small, short frazes*spelling* and show them what you want them to do like fly from there perch to your hand. Just remember they will always be your best friends if you show them love.

Actually they don't see you as its "mother". They are actually fairly independent little birds once they leave the nest. If you have a close relationship with your bird, and it follows you around it's because it views you as the flock leader. not a parent.
