I thought of a project; take a car cd player head unit and put it in a wood box with a pair of component speakers, along with a small sub, maybe 6.5", off the rear speakers on the radio (yes, a pioneer radio will do this) and wire it like that. is this possible, if so, how do i wire and power this contraption.

I've done that many years ago.

You can purchase a small regulated 12volt power supply from places such as Radio Shack and use it for power. Be sure to check the amperage requirements and buy the power supply with specs LARGER than that requirement.

If you want a better quality supply (than Radio Shack), you can check www.astroncorp.com.
