I have a ring that is so pretty and it's diamonds and cost less than $1,000. I constantly get compliments on it no matter where I go. It's not really the size of the diamonds, it's the overall look/beauty of the ring. Usually the person that will be wearing it has specific tastes. I prefer something less modern - but some prefer more modern. My ring is almost Edwardian in style - more antique'ish. Some like traditional. The key is to know the "style" of the person you are buying it for. There is a large markup on jewelry, Don't be afraid to bargain the price down. You could also try a local pawn shop, but make sure you get paperwork and know if it's a real diamond or not.

Know your budget, then study your options. Diamonds are judged by cut, clarity, color and carat weight. Normally BEST is a combination of all of these. You can get a HUGE diamond that is flawed or miscolored or the cut does not do it justice. a slightly smaller diamond (Think of each quarter carat being just a few millimeters smaller) , but is clear and cut beautifully will look much better. Also remember the setting has a lot to do with how a diamond looks. Dealing with a reputable diamond center is your best bet. NOT a mall store (These people are usually clerks, not jewlers) Asl for recommendations from people you trust. Check the jewler out in the local BBB.

Yes, this ring is absolutely gorgeous! Just my opinion though... My sister has a Tiffanys setting ring and she's had it for a few years now. Tiffanys is awesome for follow up, like if the diamond is ever damaged, needs to be cleaned, etc they will do it all for you with no charge. My best advice for your sake though, don't settle. If you don't love it then what's the point? The ring is a symbol of your commitment to each other and you will have to look at it every single day. If you can't afford it now, you can always upgrade later when finances are in better shape. Congrats and Good luck hun!

there are plenty of artificial dimond rings that you can buy at a cheaper price, which look exactly like a diamond, but are actually made of different stone. If your lover really loved you, she would not care if the diamond was expensive or not.

Depending on your budget, it is possible to find diamonds at a lower cost if you are open to considering other types of diamonds, including clarity enhanced, laser drilled, and GIA certified HPHT diamonds, and traditional, non-enhanced diamonds. I personally would go to a dealer who deals with ALL types of diamonds - then you know you are not getting a biased opinion based on their inventory.

just correcting the previous poster..

you can not get an artificial diamond that looks exactly like a diamond..

and no you can not find a 'cheap' diamond...

and if this is for an engagement ring i would also suggest asking and then taking your girl with you... nothing worse than un ugly ring and i have seen plenty!

I would try Crescent Jewelers. I have a credit account with them, which is really easy to get. This could come in handy for you since you are on a budget.

They have some very beautiful jewelry for some decent prices.

Also, maybe ebay. Be very careful who you purchase from, but you can get some pretty good deals on ebay as well.

Good luck!
