Well, you're not gonna get very much accuracy just by guesstimation, but looking at the puppy's teeth and paws usually gets you in the ballpark. Puppies lose their sharp baby teeth around 6-7 months old, depending on the breed. Very white but not very sharp teeth (unless the dog has had his or her teeth brushed daily) usually indicate that the dog is 1-2 years old. Looking at paws can also tell you how much bigger the dog is going to get. If you don't already know how old the dog is or what breed (for cross referencing), though, you don't have much choice but to guess.

By it's teeth. When you take your puppy into the vet they can look at its teeth and give you an estimate. It won't be exact, but they are pretty good at guessing puppies ages.
