Keeping hair dye in longer than the time specified can damage your hair. Keeping it in a shorter time and not giving the chemicals the proper time to process can give you a funky color result! One thing to keep in mind--even if it's permanent color, it will fade just a bit after a few washings, so if it looked darker than you expected in the strand test, it may lighten up a bit later. If you're really worried about it coming out too dark, though, go back to the drugstore and get the next lighter shade. By the way, kudos to you for doing the strand test! I never do that when I color my hair. :-)

When you color your hair darker use a protein filler, it will help the color from coming out so dark.
