Besides Continental, another option would be Southwest Airlines, which flies between Harligen (about 30 miles east of McAllen) and Houston Hobby airport.

Continental would be your best best. They fly non-stop from between Houston and McAllen. American Airlines flies there too, but with a change of planes in Atlanta (over 5 hours, which seems crazy). Delta also flies between Houston and McAllen, but there is a change of planes in Dallas.
