i am 20 and got my tonsells out when i was 17. i put up with strep throat all my life. i got it at least 4 times a year, every year. my doctor recommended i finally get them out and so i did. they do put you 2 sleep. it took about a week or so 2 fully recover, but i didnt have 2 stay in the hospital overnight or anything. they give you good medication so it isnt really that painfull afterward.it doesnt change your voice at all. i havnt had even 1 sore throat since and it was totally worth it. i suggest you do it so you dont have to go through the pain even longer.

Your tonsils are a part of your body's immune system, but a relatively small part, which is why it is generally considered safe to have them removed.

Normally, they would only be removed if someone has chronic or recurring tonsilitis. During a tonsillectomy (surgical removal of the tonsils), you would probably be put to sleep completely. It will be painful for a few days - sore throat, perhaps some nausea and vomiting for a few hours due to the anesthetic - but it will subside, and you will most likely find in the future that you don't get the same sore throats that you've probably been experiencing.

While you voice may change temporarily (during the recovery stage) I would think it should return to normal, as the tonsils are located quite distant from the larynx (voice box).

Good luck!

tonsils are part of the lymph node system and have to do with your immune system.
If you google tonsils, you will get lots of info on them

if you contract a virus such as a cold or flu, your tonsils can become swollen and bug you, giving you a sore throat and cough, and producing yukky guk.
Usually when the virus passes, the tonsils settle down and become ok, but occasionally, they become infected and will always bother you, because they just won't heal properly.
In your case - it looks like your parents and a doctor have decided that they have become too infected to deal with, so they should be removed.

They should put you to sleep for the operation. You won't feel a thing, but when you wake up, your throat will be sore, like a bad cold.
You may experience some discomfort for a week or so, but they will heal and you will be fine. Your voice will be fine.

Ok, first off DON'T GET THEM REMOVED UNLESS THEY ARE IRRITATING YOU AND YOUR DOCTOR SAID YOU HAVE TONSILLITIS. Next, if you do get them removed...it will hurt abit after surgery for a while but they do put you to sleep when they pull them out, tonsils can make you sick if they are irritating you. Yes, if you have Tonsillitis you will have a sore throat. Your voice won't be different, only for a little while after the surgery you won't be able to talk very much at all. Sounds to me like you don't know what is going on and you don't need them removed.

Tonsils are the police in your throat to keep out bad stuff, but when tonsils are bad they need to get cut out. Your throat will be sore for a couple of days and it will hurt like hell, they will feed you ice cream, anything that's cool and soothing. They will put you to sleep and your voice will not change. It's better they get taken out before you're older. Mine got taken out in my late twenties and that's worse.
Don't worry after a couple of days you'll be fine.

hi-- i got my tonsils removed when i was like 5 because i had trouble breathing at night. but yea the surgery doesnt hurt at all. they do put you to sleep, i remember them letting me pick a flavor and then letting me lie down and they put a cup thing over my nose. and then when i woke up they let me choose if i wanted to go back to my parents car in a wagon or a wheelchair. lol. but yea the recovery... i dont remember a lot about it but i think it took a while. and i lost a lot of weight because it was REALLY hard to eat. also painful. but hey if your trying to loose weight i bet you will loose 10 pounds..!

ALMOST ALL OF THE COMMENTS YOU'LL READ ARE ON POINT, SO CAN'T ADD ANYTHING NEW, BUT WHILE RECOVERING FROM SURGERY BE SURE TO EAT PLENTY OF YOUR FAVORITE ICE CREAM!
