Can someone give me some ideas for cheap backdrops, good lighting and anything else I might need for a small indoor studio that will not break the bank, that I can practice with. I’m just learning photography and have done most of my pictures outdoors. I need a lot of practice with indoor photos and different lighting.
How much is Adobe Photoshop now?
IS there anything as good as Photoshop, but less expensive
Any tips about indoor photography will be greatly appreciated

If you want to explore the world of Adobe Photoshop without spending the big money for the full product, get Photoshop Elements 5.0. It is a tremendously powerful program and it only sells for $99.00. You can get it at http://www.adobe.com or any of the usual places you buy software.

You can use it practically right out of the box with the "Quick Fix" option and then you can advance into the full program, learning TONS about the Photoshop world as you go. Frankly, I think neither you nor I would ever explore the full capabilities of Photoshop Elements 5.0. If you ever DO think you are ready for more, you will already know much of what you will need to know about "real" Photoshop. They'll undoubtedly have a new and improved version by then. Since Nikon just came out with a totally new image editting package, Adobe will have to step up to the plate.

You will find Photoshop Elements 4.0 at closeout for about $40 at several retail outlets as well as on eBay and it's a great program, too.

As far as cheap backdrops for PRACTICE, just hang a bedsheet. You must have some with neutral designs on them...

Actually, this is an important challenge/opportunity for you which goes beyond photography. This is a situation which may repeat itself many times in future years, in one form or another. Since you love photography, you should not allow someone else to ruin your enjoyment of it. That takes controlling your own thoughts and emotions regarding this teacher. You need to make a conscious effort to enjoy your hobby despite this problem. I would recommend you check the library for the book "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People." Its reading can be challenging, but it explains these concepts.

I prefer natural outdoor lighting and that is my area of expertise, finding those natural areas. Since I live in a city of 90% sunshine yearly, that is not a problem for me. Even on the gray days, it's very nice for photos.

I use Adobe, but I also use MGI photo studios and I love it.

I like Corel Photo Paint and I got version 6 on E-bay (orgiinal disks) for like $35

Corel, however, won't open interlaced JPEGs, that's about all I used Photo Shop 5 for, is opening interlaced and saving them as non-interlaced (standard) so I can work on them in Corel, because I'm so used to Corel.

I think the current Photo Shop is over $600
