If your friend is an atheist, then why would he want to adopt a religion? He needs to believe in God before he goes on to the next step.

With so many religions in the world it can be confusing to ones trying to find the Truth. If anything he should prefer the "true" religion. It should teach the truth about Jehovah God and his son Jesus Christ. In addition this religion should have its teachings based on the Bible instead of man-made doctrines. If you have time to read on, seriously consider the rest of the points below of what true religion should include and what it doesn't.

Ask yourself the following questions to find what is the true religion from the many that are out there.

1. On what is its teachings based on? Are they largely from God
or men? - 2 Timothy 3:16.
2. Consider whether it is making God's name known. - John 17:6
3. Is true faith in Jesus Christ being demonstrated? This involves
appreciation for Christ's sacrifice in our behalf and his position
as heavenly King. - John 3:36 and Psalms 2:6-8
4. Is it largely ritualistic, a formality, or is it a way of life? God
disapproves of formalism- Isaiah1:15-17. Rather true religion
upholds to God's standards instead of following popular trends.
5. Do it's members truly love another? This is a crucial
identifying mark of "true" Christians. Such love has no racial,
social or national boundaries.- John 15:35
6. Is it truly separate from the world? Jesus was no part of this
world why should we. We should be neutral in world affairs.
John 15:19
And lastly...
7. Are its members active witnesses concerning God's
kingdom actively proclaiming God's Kingdom as the only hope
for mankind.- Matthew 24:14

If your religion doesn't follow all of the following criteria you probably need to keep looking. Then ask yourself what religion does follow this criteria. Perhaps the answer may be knocking on your door. (Hint, Hint)

The best way to adopt a religion is to find one with which you feel the word to be the truth. Find a spiritual guide that can lead you through life so that you improve yourself.

I think your friend should read about the major religions of the world and decide for himself. This search can take a lot of time but the outcome is really great!

You can't adopt God.You have to show forth reason why He would want to adopt you.Fathers adopt children, not children Fathers.Speaking from a Christian stand point.

Well I'm not just saying this because I'm christian (even though I'm not very religious).i think he should adapt that religion because (no offense to the other religions)the christian, catholic,Baptist, etc.make more sense in explaining how the world was created and all that .if not then he should just believe in science(not like tom cruise!).As in the world was created by gases,we were formed by bacteria and evolved by monkeys ! tell him to do research on those.to see what he thinks

The Roman Catholic Church --- not the one in line with the Vatican. They are heretical in their teachings and traditions. Check out "SSPV" on the Internet. You will be interested to find the true religion which Jesus started on earth still exists.

http://www.beliefnet.com - have him take the "Belief-o-Matic" quiz (cheesy name, but a good quiz) to find out what religion his beliefs are currently in sync with, as well as recommendations for research.

A religion is an intensely personal relationship. No one can tell him which one is right for him, any more than he could tell someone else which one was right for them.
