Well, Jesus and some of his disciples spoke and read Hebrew, a form of Aramatic, possibly Farsi, certainly Greek, maybe Latin.
Jesus and most of his disciples were artisans -- highly skilled artisans.
At least 1/3 of the people in the Middle East today can speak Farsi, Aramatic, probably Hebrew, English and maybe even Turkish.
Most of the people in the "accepted" mainstream clergy have Masters or Doctorate degrees and generally speak some foreign language, have taken math, science and philosophy.
The man who postulated the Big Bang Theory was a Jesuit trained Catholic Priest with degrees in Physics.

I don't think that you can get any more direct than this.
Hbr 13:9 Be not carried about with divers and strange doctrines. For [it is] a good thing that the heart be established with grace; not with meats, which have not profited them that have been occupied therein.
Knowledge is simply to know something. Understanding is exactly what it is like. If I continue in sin I understand that God will put me in the lake of fire.
Psa 111:10 The fear of the LORD [is] the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do [his commandments]: his praise endureth for ever.
Job 28:28 And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that [is] wisdom; and to depart from evil [is] understanding.
Isa 11:3 And shall make him of quick understanding in the fear of the LORD: and he shall not judge after the sight of his eyes, neither reprove after the hearing of his ears:

Proverbs 10:14 reads, "wise men store up knowledge, but the mouth of a fool invites ruin." I have not read anything in the bible that indicates that one should limit one's learning. However, Proverbs exhorts and encourages the reader to apply what one learns. In searching for more knowledge, what will you do with it?

Knowledge is dung. You should seek to know the Lord Jesus Christ and him crucified.
Man is the one who wants to pump your head full of "so called " knowledge.
Man knows absolutely nothing about God. He just thinks he does.
