When birds sleep, their muscles in their feet tighten to they are grasping the branch. They relax when they wake up or need to leave.

The muscels in their bodys "lock" into plac so they can't move ... athey don't sleep standing up they just take "cat" naps that way they sleep "siting" in their nests.

wow...I actually know this one....our muscles and tendons in our feet naturally want to close like a fist....we have to conciously open them....the exact opposite of you humans..that way we dont have to think about it.

the reason they don't fall is because their rear claw locks in place when they sit on things, keeping them from falling
