First, throw out all the chocolate, cocoa, cocoa powder, and chocolate chips, or give them away. You want to eliminate all the sources of temptation, even the boxes of Thin Mints in the freezer you're saving for holiday desserts.
Next, when you feel the urge for chocolate, buy one SMALL milk or dark chocolate bar, preferrably the best quality at the supermarket checkout lane. Dark chocolate is much better for you than milk, and less fattening. Don't get added nuts, caramel or nougat, just the chocolate. Don't buy any more than one. You want to make obtaining chocolate difficult.
Wait to eat it until you are home, relaxed with a cup of tea or coffee, and savor it slowly with little bites. Make it an experience to be enjoyed and remembered. Even better, share your chocolate! Divide it into unequal portions and give your husband or child the bigger part.
Then take a long walk and burn off those calories.
Remember to eat to live, not live to eat.

If you are serious about the term 'addiction', then you should really see someone for counseling about an eating disorder, or about addition, or both. If what you mean is you don't feel like you have much willpower, but you do have SOME, think about the fact that most chocolate items are VERY high fat, and it can add up quickly. If the facts don't shock you, you need to do something to get you away from the 'bad influence' and into a new habit that takes its place. Running isn't for everyone, but it's not a bad thing either -- running (good and hard, not bouncy flouncy pretend jogging or walking with your cell phone) generates endorphins, which sort of give you a nice mellow buzz, a bit like a couple glasses of wine. This might replace the way you feel when you eat chocolate. And running BURNS calories! Or (I don't mean to be crass here), "get some"... it's good exercise (if you do it right) and it's ZERO calories, AND it produces the same feeling as chocolate in both sexes.
Good luck... take care

I read an article (I do apologize, but I don't recall where, maybe Psychology Today, but I read a lot of things) that it's healthier to eat DARK chocolate at least a couple (twice) a month then to not eat any at all.
I must say that addictions are addictions; they take time to beat. It's not like chocolate is such a bad thing to eat, but there are healthier things. Fat free chocolate has more carbs and sugar free chocolate has more fat. I'm sure you'll notice that when you read the nutrition labels.
You are the only person that can stop eating alot of it. Just take it down a notch and only consume dark choclate. If I'm not mistaken they sell chocolate in vitamin form. Maybe you should just have one a day vitamin form. You can tell yourself "Hey I took my vitamins, and I at least had ONE piece of chocolate."
Ok Please read the articles on the bottom:

Chocolate does have caffeine and other chemicals that seem to raise the seratonin levels of your brain (the chemical that makes us feel good)
But try to find out if its not the creamy smoothness feel good you like about chocolate, or the chocolate flavor.. If its just chocolate. What I do is try to find the pure dark chocolate with the most cocoa per volumn of bar. and I just eat a tiny bit of it (its too rich actually to polish it all off in one go) and this seems to help my addiction.

Try reducing your consumption gradually, not stopping all at once. Minimize the amount that you eat each day.
