Check with your local VINE(National Victim Notification Network)

Here's a site with 1-800 numbers for all the different areas they cover.

You are looking at this the wrong way around. Don't attack the prisoners for what they are being given, and don't take it away from them. Go and ask your elected government officials why thet don't give law abiding citizens the same oppotunities as law breakers to a good free education. What we have allowed is for the bleeding hearts to be more concerned with protecting the rights of criminals than the normal person in the street. If the various levels of governments put the same amount of resources per head of population in the community that they applied to the prisoners educations then most people would get a level of education and training that would show them that there is a better way of life than committing crimes. Maybe then our prisons would have a few less people in them!! Stand up and demand the same rights as a criminal.

Federal or state? Will be freed or already freed? The Federal Bureau of Prisons web site will give you the inmate's scheduled release date. Which ain't necessarily so, but it's a starting point.

Depends on the state you are in. If you are the victim you have a right to be notified. If the person is a sex offender there are other rules for that as well.
All depends on state policies and whether anyone gives a hoot.
If you have a private attorney he/she usually can get that info without too much trouble. That will save you the headache of calling to find out. It will cost though.
You could search court records, but that would give sentence only and wouldn't account for time served or good time days or even early release due to population overcrowding!

You can call directly to the prison and they will tell you. You can go to the Department of Corrections website of the state where the inmate was/is serving his time and do the "Inmate Search" on that website. The release date is posted there.
If he/she is a federal inmate, go to www.bop.gov and then go to "Inmate Locator" on that site.

By the way, usually an inmate gets released 6 months(!) PRIOR to the stated release date you will see on his record! (gets released on parole)

Check to see if your state has an offender locator feature on their website. If they do, when you enter their name or DOC number, it will tell you nearly immediately if they are still incarcerated.
