The best rifle? Probably not, but it is an excellent choice. I have a Ruger #1 in .458 Winchester Mag. I love it. Is it better than my Steyr Mannlicher Pro Hunter? My Remington 700 .25-06? Well, the .458 is a better hog gun than the .25-06, but not a better deer gun. And the Steyr (in .30-06 Springfield) is a better all around rifle.

So you see, it is a matter of matching your gun to the game.

Happy hunting!

Yeah, let bound's hubby answer this one.

As for me I'd say Ruger bolt actions are the high working man's rifle.I just bought a mk77 in .280.I love it.I've seldom had any complaint if at all with any Ruger weapon I've owned. They are the working man's high end gun.

One can hardly say that. Ruger is a good value, but there are costlier rifles that outclass it. I have owned such guns by Weatherby, Mannlicher-Schonauer, Sako and FN. They cost a bit to much more than a Ruger. Maybe they are not worth it to you, but one pays his money for what he wants, and my rifles beat my brother-in-law's Ruger in accuracy and power.

For the price and quality you can't beat a Ruger. They are quality firearms with durability and beauty.
