I've taken him to the vet--nothing wrong. I try to play with him, but he's not interested in that. He doesn't seem to like anything right now, and to be truthful it's really sad to see. What do I do?

and I'm not giving him chocolate. It's extremely hard on a dog's stomach, from what my vet has told me.

Maybe they are missing something at the vet. I work at a vet, and we have a dog come in, her name is Brandy, she is a 6 year old german shepard mix. She was the same way, she was losing weight, didn't care to go on walks, did get up when people came to the door anymore, didn't even get excited over treats. We ran blood work and found out she has Auto Immune Hemolytic Anemia. That just means her body was attacking her red blood cells, and she felt like crap. She is on medication and is doing SOOO much better now, she is back to her normal self. So maybe it is a metabolic disease that they are just missing.
Or maybe something happened that really did make him sad. Like someone he loved is now gone, whether it be a person or a dog. I have seen that happen before. Well, whatever happened, i hope he feels better soon!!

It could be a number of things. Since he is a male. A female dog close by. Might be in heat. They wont eat, just lay around look all. depressed, and sad.
If you are depressed. The dog knows, that will affect him as well.
Hope things cheer up for him. Give him lots of hugs and kisses. Try playing with him.

First of all, how old is he? It may just be his personality or that he's older and not into playing anymore. Some dogs are happy just being lap dogs. I know a dog that's only 5 yrs and when he comes to my house he hangs out with my 16 yr old dog.

Well, I guess it depends on the dog! How old is he? What breed of dog? Did he play before?? Maybe he has some type of illness or pain if he moves the wrong way.
Was he recently taken from another dog-friend of his?
Maybe his stomach is upset from his food?
Good luck!

All you can do is give him extra attention and some extra treats. Make him feel special. Keep trying to play with him, entice him with treats. He'll come around. If he doesn't come around in another week using these methods call your vet tell him what is happening and ask for further suggestions.

If your vet has found no physical problems and you cannot put your finger on anything in his life that has changed, you might try the flower essence Zinnia. You can just put a few drops in his water bowl or put them directly on his fur. Treat him frequently for about a week to see if you can get a change in his outlook.

"Zinnia - Positive Qualities - childlike humor and playfulness, lightheartedness"
