A Yorkie. They are cute, friendly, highly intelligent, and get along well with kids of all ages. They also do not shed.

A Cavalier King Charles Spaniel or Mini Beagle or Mini Schnauzer. They are all good with kids, easy to train, and are not big shedders or barkers. Just make sure you DON'T buy from a pet store-- they can have a lot of health issues, and you will just be setting things up for heartbreak.

There are LOTS of small dogs good with kids. You can walk around your local animal shelter and see what dogs they have. A lot of times mixed breeds are Excellent with kids. And the staff work closely with the animals, so they can tell you their temperament. Like whether they are playful, mellow, good with kids, good with dogs... I personally LOVE boston terriers, and with my experiences they are very good with kids. They are really nice dogs, and they definitely have the energy to keep up with kids who are playing all the time. But you can look at all kinds of breeds and their characteristics on www.dogbreedinfo.com They have every breed imaginable. Good Luck, and have fun looking for the perfect puppy!!

First of all; better check this out with the parents !

A small breed of beagle is best. They are not "nippy", have a soft "bird mouth"; don't require alot of exSpensive grooming; and if you get a female; they make wonderful pets. They are very smart and learn quickly.

Write her a cute little note or something to open for Christmas, with a date set for both of you to go to a dog shelter, and let her choose.

i would go to a breeder. i prefer poodles but this is your choice. play with the puppies and see which are the most playfull and friendly. those will be the best choices for a 10 year old!

Dont get anything to fragile that could be a problem with young children. Get a hardy little dog. Maybe a dashund. I have a beagle dashund mix who loves children. He is a guard dog but not agressive, sweet but not dependent, soft but not holdable (dropping issues). Email me and I will look into it in more depth. Thanks for your time.
