I was told that you need full coverage insurance to rent a car, but I'm like "hey, thats why i'm renting it, because i don't have a car why would I have full coverage insurance for no car" maybe the kid was just not understanding me. Seriously though what should I expect and what do you recommend? Thankyou

If the renter does not have comprehensive and collision coverage on his/her own vehicle he/she has to buy the coverage the rental company offers. Otherwise if the vehicle is damaged you will have to pay for all of the damages. You don't want that. If you do have full coverage, don't buy the insurance through the rental company. It is way expensive, and your coverage with your company takes care of the rental damages, less your deductible.

There are no set rules that bind all car rental outfits.

They get their money by renting you a car, so they want your business, but they don't want to lose money by renting to a high-risk driver.

They all have different requirments and different rules.

You just have to call around to find out prices and terms.

If you drive cars you don't own often, you should consider buying a special policy that only covers cars you DON'T own. Yes, there is such a thing, it may be just what you want to protect both you and the rental agency for a whole lot less than the cost of the insurance the rental agency wants to sell you.

Yes if you are going to be using a lender. Full coverage (collision and comprehensive) with or without a deductible until the car is paid off. Every driver is required by law to have property damage and liability coverage also known as PL and PD.

You can buy the insurance at the rental car company. You need to buy it for each person that will drive the car.

they can't require you to purchase insurance...however if you damage the car you will be responsible. rental car insurance is expensive...and if you are only using it for a few days it may be advisable as you don't have insurance.

It's best to get insurance through reputable companies like State Farm, Allstate, Farmers, etc. and please do not get it from the rental car companies because they're expensive and worthless.

Protect yourself before renting.

Good luck.
