What do you have on your computer? You can upload files to online storage servers where you can retrieve them anytime you want.
ex. Yahoo Briefcase
http://filelodge.com
http://streamload.com
If you have pictures or music you do not need to play always you can put them to online storage. You can access them anytime with internet access.
*note not al file storage is unlimited Some remove after X amount of days. Those 2 are the ones I can confirm that do not have a time limit.
Remove any unwanted applications that you do not want anymore.
How big is your HD? Can you afford a second Hard drive as storage?
To find your hard drive space: My Computer-Right Click C:->Properties

Hi,
Now that you have done a Disk Clean up, u r already devoid of temp internet files and other items in cache. So now, here is all that you can do: -
1. Delete :) There are a lot of things that have no relevance at all. Delete such items. And you will be surprised of how much of old -unusable stuff u have...
2. Secondary Backup: This is what i do. I keep a plug 'n' play HDD (Hard Disk). These come in 40 - 80 GB space sizes and are extremely economical (price wise). Take off data that you do not need on this HDD. U can free upto 40 - 80 GB on ur machine!! And best of all, plug and use it anytime, its amazing.
3. HARD CD BACKUP: (inconvinient & cumbersome & space consuming): Well, same as in 2 above, but on CD Roms...Depending on type of backup, this can be a good or bad option. (If its pics & movies and mp3 files and etc...its a good option.)
4. ZIP DRIVE/Compression of HDD: this is a little technical process and you might need help of a friend. You can zip all old items on your Hard Disk and keep them there for later use. In a more complicated option, u can create a partition on Hard Disk and create a compressed drive. These are slower though.
Hope these many options should help. Please consider Option 2 carefully, it might not strike at first, but it will amaze u with its utility.
PART 2: CHECKING HARD DISK SPACE
This is simple. If u r using windows Operating System (which i am sure,..how else u did a disk cleanup)...do the following.
1. My computer ICON on Desktop: Double click and open. Right click ur HDD. Click Properties. The next window shall be showing u the complete space and portion of used and free space in GBs and as a pie chart too. This is most simple.
If u r using Windows Xp, Start menu - My computer - then same as above.
There are other ways of determining HDD space as well...but i guess, u just wanted 'a' way to check Hard Disk Space.
Hope this works.
Cheers.

Uninstall programs you don't use anymore, go back to Disk Clean Up, and choose the More Options Tabs. There is a free program called CCleaner (crap cleaner), that will also safely clean up clutter. Your browser (Internet Explorer) saves web-pages and stuff you visit, sometimes setting aside 1,024 MG of space. To change this, open IE, choose Tools, Internet Options. Under Browsing History, choose Settings, and lower the number from 1024 to 50. Right click on the Recycle Bin on your desk top, choose properties, and you will see a sliding bar, lower it to about 5%. If you got allot of photos, you can compress them by going to My Pictures, choose Edit, Select All. Then click on File, Send To, and choose Compressed Folder, that should save space too. Best of luck

Did you defragment your hard drive. You can find the defragment program right near where you found the Disk clean up. Before that though you could remove any programs your not using (that option is in your control panel) and delete your temporary internet files. Try that, it might free up some space! Good luck!

Steps...
1. Use the system clean up tools.
2. Find your temp folder in "documents and settings/~user" and delete all contents (any that needed by a particular application would usually be automatically replaced by that program).
3. Uninstall programs you do not need.
4. Remove any help files you do not need (hlp and chm)
5. Use windows XP folder/file compression (remember to back them up first)
6. Delete any unnecessary files installed by Windows (extra wallpapers, sound files, etc)
7. Get a program to scan your system for duplicate files and delete the duplicates (such as visual basic run-time files).
8. Defrag
9. If you have two drives (if not.... install one), then change your documents (My Documents) from the boot drive to the second drive.

Besides what you have done, do the add and remove like already stated. Run a defrag (or what ever its called) under your system tools. This will make more space also. Run adware and a anti-virus which will increase preformance as well.
