My dress is all over ivory lace and strapless. The bridesmaid dresses I like are red strapless empire waist dresses in a jersey/cotton material. My maid of honor loves it, but will it clash too much with my dress? Does it even matter if it does? I am going to be wearing a red sash to tie in the look to the dresses. What do you think?

I think if you, as the bride, like it, and more importantly, if the bridesmaids like it, then I would go for it. An empire waist is a very flattering look on just about everyone, and the material really doesn't matter much. If you like it, then it will work.
Best of luck to you!

The bridesmaid dresses don't need to look like the wedding gown at all. And if you've already found something that your maid of honor loves, go with it. There's nothing worse than having to wear an ugly bridesmaid dress.

I think that it is truly up to the bride. The times are so modern that anything is possible. I think the ivory and red combonation it pretty. Also I think they will go together well due to the cut. Remember as long as it matches to you and you have a second opinion approving it that is all that matters. It a plus that the maid of honor likes the dress.

My wedding was full of color. Due to the place and age of flower girl, she was lead by my step-daughter to be, she was in a beautiful dress black with blue flowers, flower girl was next, followed by next step-daughter to be in a beautiful Lavender dress followed by my wife to be in her mother's Bridal Gown, true she was not a virgin, as white represents, but, she was mine. That was the bridesmaids, two. Everyone thought it was a beautiful wedding. I was tripping on my Brother who was running around lost with the ring, but, it was perfect.
Do, what you feel best, it your time. Do not let Tradition get in the way, this the time for YOUR Tradition and your style, it your moment. What you say sound Beautiful, I think it be good. If, you worried of a "clash" have red and white rose bouquets around the Alter/Whatever. But, now comes my criticism, I would NOT wear a red sash!!!! Bring the colors together in the decorations. OK? But, again it your moment.

sounds beautiful! I wouldn't worry about how similiar the bridemaids dresses look to you're dress, after all, you are supposed to have the ONLY wedding dress on so you dont want anyone looking to much like your dress. The only thing i would watch out for is combning different shades of the same color ( red and pinks, blues and purples, white and ivory)
the red sash sounds like agreat way to tie it all in....but i thinkyou'd still be fine without it too.

the bridesmaids dresses don't need to look or be in any way similar to the brides dress ... if you found a dress in red that your maid of honor likes ... that will be great ... but make sure all the bridesmaids dresses are exactly the same color ...

you want to stand out, but something that helped me was have each bridesmaid pick a different dress but stick with the same color, these girls are dropping money into a dress they will wear once...it better look nice on so they can wear it another time...everyone has different body shapes, so be nice to your girls. i would want to stand out best i could...i've seen that look before red dresses and white dress gorgeous even without the splash of color on the white dress. do what you want! it's your day! you'll be beautiful no matter what!

I would say as much or as little as the bride likes. But, to keep a general theme going throughout the wedding attire, I would say keep the same style to all of the dresses. Either all modern dresses, all traditional dresses, etc.

It doesn't mater in fact the difference will only make your dress stand out. I would advice not to let the dresses look to much like yours after all its your turn to be "Queen for a day". My bridesmaids dresses are all different. I gave them a colour and they picked mix and match separates that suited their individual styles. (made my day a lot easier and they are all happy)
