I see a lot of ppl begin cooking on the stove with a skillet and then transfer it to the oven to finish cooking. Are there certain types of skillets you can do this with, or can you do it with any skillet that doesn't have a plastic handle?

A cast iron skillet is a good one for this purpose. DON'T use one that has a Teflon or similar non-stick lining in it as this will ruin it. If you have an aluminum or steel pan, without a plastic handle, you can use that, too. OR, if the pans you own all have a plastic handle, wrap the handle in a few sheets of aluminum foil first to protect the handle. But the best bet would be to go out and purchase a cast-iron pan just for this purpose. They get RED hot, so be careful taking it out of the oven. Potholders are called for.

Have fun. Hope this helps you. What are you making?

actually I am not a huge fan of the stainless, I prefer the autograph dupont. You have to be aware of what temp the pans can go up to. The pampered chef has 2 different types of cookware. The professional which can withstand 350 degrees and the executive which can withstand 400 degrees. Both have a lifetime warranty and are amazing. I HIGHLY recommend them.

Yes,that's true, you can use any skillet which has no plastic handle. You must be careful, when you take out from the hot oven, always use gloves or kitchen towel.

Those are generally cast iron skillets. Lodge makes good ones.

Cast Iron is best, but, yes, any skillet with a non-melt/burn handle should work. Non-stick is iffy and you probably shouldn't use one of them, they can emit gases at higher temperatures.
