Yes its a good sentence, and the comma is in the right place. These people are idiots that said its incorrect, trust me.

yes it is, and what comes after this clause is important too.
examples: a yes/no question like "i'd like to know if your father is over forty." a wh question "~ what language you speak at home." something like "~ your name."
