Don't chew on tin foil!!!!!! There are a number of reasons this hurts!

You are stabbing your gums(for one). If you have amalgam(silver) fillings, then you are causing a chemical reaction in your mouth that may cause sparks.

Why would you chew on tin foil in the first place?

Okay, I'm no clinician, but I think I have an insight into this. First of all - yikes! But I think it is similar to other types of addictive/compulsive/ self-injurious behavior. I think you're attracted to it *BECAUSE* it hurts! I mean - how the heck can that hurt? That's what you're trying to answer. It's maybe that you can barely believe it actually hurt - so you do it again! Duh! Like the sign - "Wet Paint". Who among us hasn't uttered "Yep - it's wet, alright!" We *have* to touch it. Just like when we see someone standing at an elevator. Obviously they've pressed the button. But....we just *have* to, to make sure! In the interest of total honesty, I have OCD - so I can more than relate to having to battle with one compulsive behavior or another - and that @%^!@# urge that drives you to it. You really should try and google something like (or yahoo it, heh heh, sorry!) OCD, trichotillomania, and (yes!) bulimia. The habit/ disorder of "cutting" may also have some psychological similarities - but I hesitate to guess as I really don't know what motivates that behavior. Have you ever licked one of those 9-volt batteries? I think that's the type - with the circle and the broken up square sticking out on one end? As a kid, I just "had" to lick the square part. I couldn't figure out why this little battery could "zap" me like that! I've gotten over that one, believe me! Maybe this can explain S&M as well - but - ahem! - we'll leave that for another post/ person/ site! Hope this was helpful - or at least interesting!

First of all why are you chewing on tin foil? And, your teeth might hurt because they are very sensetive. It might also be because of what toothpaste you use. Teeth-whitening toothpaste makes your teeth a lot more sensetive.

The ions in the aluminum foil (AlFO) has a 2+ charge and your which are coated by saliva (SaH2O) has a 1- charge. The resultant charge is a 1+ which leads to a microelectric shock that runs through your veins.
