Hong Kong's predominent language is Cantonese-Chinese. Since you're from Singapore, where most of the population speaks Mandrian-Chinese, you might have difficulty in language barriers. (The writing is the same of course, but the spoken language is different)

place that sell cheaper things? well..u must bargain at hongkong sometimes they tell u high price and then u can buy 10% from the first price.
shopping at central and causeway bay are the main shopping districts on hongkong.
for clothes : its call li yuen st east and li yuen st west in central have some bargains.jardine's bazaar, lee garden rd
for antique and curios : hollywood rd , pacific place . curio alley , mountain folkcraft
shopping in kowloon is a bizarre mixture of the down at heel and the glamorous. go to tsim sha tsui and harbour city .
food :
chinese food enjoy at hongkong and especially try DIM SUM uniquely cantonese dishes served for breakfast , brunch , lunch.
1. beijing shui jiao wong at 118 jaffe rd . wan chai 7 am - 11pm dumpling server best and cheapest and soup noddles in hk
2. che's cantonese resto at 4th fl , the broadway , 54-62 lockhart rd , wan chai. this excellent cantonese resto
another ..u can try seafood
rainbow seafood resto at shops 1a-1b and 23 - 24 first st, sok kwu wan , lamma.
specialises for seafood , steamed groper , lobster and abalone
tea house
luk yu tea house at 77 wellington st , central. this old style tea house and the dimsum is very good
