This answer was posted to a previously asked version of this question. Can anyone elaborate on why pigs milk is not used to make cheese or to feed the hungry??? I'm interested in the scientific details, not the social norms.

"While pig milk is very rich, there's one major difference between its milk and cows, goats, sheep, etc.) A pig is a nonruminant; those animals are ruminants. The short-chain fatty acids produced by ruminants are not present in pigs; they produce long-chain fatty acids.

To make a long story short, milk produced by animals with long-chain fatty acids is primarily a function of the diet of the animal, like human milk."

Just copied this. Didnt get where from, but it should answer the question.

Porcine do lactate and their milk I will assume would taste great, because it is made of 8.5% fat in relation to the fat that makes up 3.5% of the components in cows milk. The other components such as lactose and water are found at nearly the same percentages in pig's milk. However, pigs will on average produce 13 lbs of milk in a day as compared to cows that produce 65 lbs of milk on average per day. Pigs unlike cows cannot become pregnant while lactating and therefore possess a severe economic problem to producers. whfle pigs consume less feed per day, economics does not allow pigs to be a viable source of dairy products.

The biggest challenge facing the porcine dairy industry is collecting the product. Pigs on average have fourteen teats as opposed to cows that have four teats. Pigs also differ from cows in their milk ejection time, a cows milk ejection is stimulated by the hoimone oxytocin and can last ten minutes, where as a pig's milk ejection time only last fifleen seconds as the suckling pigs stimulate the release of oxytoc in. The technology of a 14 cupped mechanized milking machine that can milk a pig in 15 seconds is not available to pork producers.

Because pigs are fairly short of stature through the legs, one would have to lie in the "mud" of their pen to extract the milk, making the milking process quite unpleasant. Also, 10 teats take much longer than 4. Perhaps you could begin a pig milking farm and have the corner on the pig milk market.

Ever try milking a pig? It becomes obvious very quickly. Goats and cows have udders, making it relatively easy to milk. And they have long legs keeping things more sanitary.

Cows and goats east vegetation, pigs eat anything, which is the basis of the differences in the amino acids in the milk.

Pigs can also be vicious animals, and usually feral in undeveloped nations. Even ruminants like cows, sheep and goats will not allow their milk to "drop" and be expressed if they are stressed while being caught. A non-udder animal like a pig is even more difficult to catch and milk. People are killed by feral pigs, especially sows protecting their babies.

Pigs also have litters of many babies to consume the sow's milk; cattle generally have no more than two babies, usually just one.

Could have something to do with diet. Pigs are fed horrible gross stuff. The effect could show up in the milk. And they are onivores. apparently the best tasting milk comes from herbavores.

Yes, a Lacto-veggie. Good job! Edit:No, you are not a vegan! Sorry, but that person who said that is wrong! A vegan does not eat milk! They also do not use anything that comes from animals, or eat animal by-products.

The earliest farmers probably understood that you can't live too long if you drink milk from anything that lays on the ground to nurse. Or the ones that didn't understand, probably went extinct after dying from diptheria or something.
