I was recently in a car crash and in ICU for nearly a month. Often when i had to have my sheets changed and such my parents had to wait in the ICU waiting room. The same time i was there a child of a middle eastern family was there, so my parents and the middle eastern family offen exchanged hellos and such. At one point the middle eastern family told my parents that they would pray to 'Allah'(sp?) for me. Now i'm not religous so to me it was the same as just saying they hope i get better.

My question is for those that are more religous or even atheists... Would you be offended if you were one religion and some one said they would pray to what you concider a false god for you? If your atheist, would you get mad if anyone said they would pray to any god for you?

I honestly think god had nothing to do with it, me still being here is due to some wonderful doctors. I was just wondering what others would think or do in a simular situation.

I'm an atheist.

In that situation, when the intentions behind it are that the person wants to help and be nice, then no, it does not bother me. I would likely say, "Thank you for your concern, I appreciate it."

It's when a person uses prayer as a threat, or in a condescending way, "I'll pray that God shows you how wrong you are to not believe," that I am offended.

I would also be a little put off if it were someone I knew that made a point to say they would pray repeatedly in times like that, knowing I don't believe in it.

Asking, "May I pray for you?" is always OK with me, though.

I dream dreams. As a Christian I know that some of them are from God. The night former Prime Minister Ariel Sharon of Israel was assassinated, I had a dream about it.

I was standing in a large home in Israel and an elderly Jewish man had died. His family and friends (all Jews) were there mourning. There was an angel standing beside me. I asked him if it would be an offense for me as a Christian to pray for this man's household. The angel quietly said, "It would be a great kindness." And so I prayed for Israel.

The following morning my husband was up before I was. He came into the bedroom and I told him my dream. He looked shocked and said for me to wait a minute. He returned a minute later and held up the newspaper so I could see the large headline: Ariel Sharon Assassinated!

If someone from another belief says they will pray to whatever god or goddess they believe in for me, I am not offended. I know it will do no good, but recognize their caring intention. So I just say, "Thank you; that is very kind." That's all I need to say.

God Bless,

Sue

I have an odd history - raised roman catholic, then long time atheist, and now some form or atheist/polytheist (if one religion is right then they all are - and since this is mutually exclusive - they must all be wrong).

And I've nearly died more times than I can count for various reasons (bad luck? karma? random chance?)

I certainly take no offense today in anyone offering prayers for my recovery. I used to find it offensive, on occasion to the point of actually getting angry. But I've learned to accept what others believe, and not take offense if it differs from my position or my beliefs.

I've been lucky in life - simply a statistical anomoly in my opinion - but I'm not going to offend others beliefs over it.

Just my .01

No, I would not be offended. I would be humbled by it. I find it a little strange that you write, "I honestly think god had nothing to do with it." To throw something like that out there is a little unnerving because you don't know. You don't know if the doctors or nurses prayed, you don't know if other people prayed for you. Perhaps you should be a little thankful and not so selfish.

first of all id like to let u know allah is god. allah is an arabic way of saying god/lord. if u were an arab christian, u would not use the word god but allah.

allah created us all. he is god, the most merciful, the most kind. he is the master of the day of judgement. he was never created nor will he ever die. he is eternal. allah(swt) is the most high. he is one. the first the last. he has no son/daughter/wife etc... he is alone. he gave us life as a test. he created this world for us. how can we not believe in him? if it wasnt for him, u would not be in this world. he gave u ur parents, ur siblings. someone to love and hold on to. he provided food for u and blessed u with a roof. how can we not think of him as a creator? we will all return to him and when we are asked who is our lord? what will we say? he is the one who protected u from the car crash....its like giving u another chance. if he wanted he could have ended it for u. i think u should ask him to guide u and help u.because if he cant then noone can. and if someone does its through him. read his words....quran. if u search for him, he will show u the way. may allah help u recover from ur injuries and show u the right path. take care and salaam(pe@ce) :)

I believe in the power of prayer---regardless of what specific deity one is praying to. I wouldn't have any issues with someone praying for me to get well. I believe in many deities. Although I only worship certain ones, I don't feel that the others are "false" deities---especially to those who believe in them. Just because I don't worship a deity doesn't mean that they aren't real. It just means that I don't worship them. I like well-wishes from others and if nothing else, it makes me feel good that they were concerned about me.

I think if someone said that to me, I'd just be polite and smile or something. I'm a Cristian, and I don't believe and all these false God's but acting all offended and actin glike a Bible-thumper wouldn't show God's love at all. I'd probably say "And I'll pray God heals you child as well," or something- show the love and respect and kindness.

If someone is praying to their God that I heal, then no, I don't have any issues with it. Good energy is good energy.

The only time I get upset when someone says "I'll pray for you" is when they mean "I'll pray that God opens your eyes and touches your heart and you see that you're on the wrong path so you'll change your ways and convert to Christianity so you can be 'saved'."

I don't pray to my Gods that someone else will become Pagan - that is affecting their free will, and is unethical. I appreciate the same respect in return.

For those who said Allah is a fake God, congratulation u've said Jesus Christ is fake as well. Allah = God .Just a matter of language usage

If you hate them for what they said.
You know what i think? I think u're ungrateful . People are wishing for you to recover, the least u can do is say ' Thank u ' I thought Atheist can think, did u hurt your head?

Not only about the Muslim , if a christian or jews say i'll pray for you . Means u have to say thank u because they didn't mean to be offensive!
