2 Corinthian 10

[12] For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.
[13] But we will not boast of things without our measure, but according to the measure of the rule which God hath distributed to us, a measure to reach even unto you.
[14] For we stretch not ourselves beyond our measure, as though we reached not unto you: for we are come as far as to you also in preaching the gospel of Christ:
[15] Not boasting of things without our measure, that is, of other men's labours

I would say it disaproves of comparing yourself to another. That could be considered competition

God's Word urges Christians to avoid the spirit of competition,saying:"Let us not become egotistical,stirring up competition with one another,envying one another" - Gal.5:26

approves I think... God or his angels sure did not stop the sibling Rivalry between Cain and Abel... Issac and Ishmael.... and quite a few more through the Bible

Paul encourages us to run the Good Race, so I suppose that means 'approves'.

I don't know of a verse or passage that addresses it.

BTW- Picard......the Bible does not promote communism-it promotes commonism, with an "o", not with a "u". there is lots of difference. engage!
