Movie is plural
Tried needs to be tried because will indicates future and tried is past.

Future tense is written this way: Both underground and mainstream movies will try to capture the viewer's interest.

Past tense is like this: Both underground and mainstream movies tried to capture the viewer's interest.

Where you looking for ""independent"" instead of ""underground""?

This may be better - Both the underground and mainstream movie tried to capture the viewer's interest. I added "the" and removed "will."
