I beleive its to protect themselves just in case someone were to try and copy the exact information down on a stolen prescription pad. But to be honest, I believe that it is stupid for them to do that because if the pharmacist or pharmacy tech gives the wrong drug to the wrong person then thats the patient's life their dealing with. To be honest, I think that Doctors care more about their medical license than the safety of their patients. Thats just what I think!

Because when they're in medical school, they takes notes through the lectures, and have to write really fast to get everything they need down. They do it for a long time, years, and so they write everything like that now.

I'll weigh in here with a slightly different slant on the problem. In med school we had to take notes at lightening speed, and our penmanship deteriorated. When I first went into practice several pharmacists called to say they couldn't read my prescriptions. My solution was to imagine that as I wrote a new prescription, Sister Mary Blandina was standing over my shoulder, ruler in hand. That helped. Nowadays, offices equipped with Electronic Medical Record software spit out printed prescriptions at the touch of a keystroke or two.

I always thought it was because doctors are rushed when they have to go from patient to patient... but I feel your pain. I can NEVER read anything I get from the doctors. Maybe they should give people jobs where they have to write things for the doctors... then it might be easier for all of us. xDD

if you had to sign your name ten thousand times a day then you might write sloppy to and remember these guys didn't take English since high school, they dictate all letters and use abbreviations in physicians notes in hospital charts. so explains their lack of writing skills.

Its probably because they are always in such a hurry and have heaps to do, not that it makes it right, but where would we be without them?
