I know that tom(my fiance) leaves feb 5. for san diego. I know he leaves for 3 months in to the *** kicking of his life. Now, we're getting married in 4 weeks. Im super excited but I have people tellin me bad things about the marines. That I am not going to be covered with medical insurance while hes at boot camp and it will take almost a year. Also that it takes years to get housing and that thier housing is the worst in all the branches. I know that all recruiters fluff up the image to the family of soon to be marines so it sounds nice...i know this but i need to know the truth. Im willing to deal with the obligations of marine life becuase its what he wants to do. Please im looking for advice...thanks alot...god bless
ps. where are all the marine bases at..just wondering so I can research

being married in the military is hard but i tcan work if you work hard enough for it. also when he gets to basic they ask if he is married and if he gives an address in new york you get about $1000 more than anywhere eles in the us. and no they dont check.

Okay I got married about a year before my husband went to boot camp. I didn't get health care while he was there, but it was because I was already covered. When he came home on leave just after boot camp, we went to the reserve base near where we live and I got a military id. After you have your id, you can use it as your insurance card. You will have to enroll in Tricare in your area and through DEERS but your "husband" can get you the #'s to those. As far as the bases I really just know about Camp Pendleton. The wait is usually less than 2 months and alot of times they will get you housing immediately. The USMC base housing is all going under privatization and its so much nicer than it used to be! As far as the research, you can look up the bases at http://www.usmc.mil/marinelink/mcn2000.nsf/homepage?readform

Where he gets stationed depends on his MOS and where he requests. Anyways hope this helps and good luck with the wedding.

don't get married right before boot unless his recruiter is willing to process the necessary paperwork.. because if he isn't, you won't be covered until it IS processed.. and generally speaking, they won't process it at Boot camp. which means you would have to wait until he reaches school, and maybe not even then( some schools don't like to process this stuff, although it's relatively easy to do) Showing Up to Boot married(without the proper paperwork) is BAD.. as in he can get into trouble for it.

Housing availability will vary based on location, his paygrade and his Bedroom entitlement. One base you can show up and get keys the same day, and the next base have to wait 36 months.

I wouldn't suggest getting married right before bootcamp, because one of you is going to change.

From what I've seen, the army has the matine corps cornered on the worst housing market. You'll get health care as fast as he enrolls you in DEERS.
