The Marines take it, the Army keeps it.

First of all, which branch to join should be made carefully. Don't depend on the answers you get here. Most don't know what the hell they are talking about. The Marine Corp is a great service with a lot of tradition and pride. But they are not the primary force for the U.S. It would be tactically and logistically imposible. They don't have the resources nor numbers. They depend on the Army for almost everything from weapons to training. If they where the primary combat unit, then why would the Army bother maintaining the Airborne Divisions, Rangers, Special Forces (Green Berets) and Delta Force? By the time the Marines arrive in a hot zone the Special Forces and Rangers have already been there and ae buying the T-Shirts. Don't get me wrong, the Marine Corps is a fierce fighting machine, but they are not designed to preceed the Army. They are more of small conflict and support outfit.

I was in the Army. My job was Infantry. I earned my EIB.
(Expert Infantryman Badge). They just don't give this to you. You have go through many steps to get it. Out of a Battalion of 600 Infantrymen. Only about 15 earn it. So, I would have to say Army.
If you are planning on going to Ranger School. You would have to do Basic Training, Then Advance Trianing. Then you would go to Airborne School. After that Ranger School. If you want to go to Sniper School the Army has one too.

Yes I know there allot of you who will say the the Marines are the best. Remember that the Marines are part of the Navy. That is right they are. Check out the website links I posted. It has all the Army Schools at Ft. Benning, Ga. Which ever one you go into. Do your best and be the best you can be. And God Bless you.
HOOAH!

First, and most importantly, don't believe anything a recruiter tells you unless you see it in writing.

The truth is, there are Marines who do paperwork or support work for most of the time they're in the military, and there are Army soldiers who see plenty of fierce fighting. It all depends on what job you have, what units you serve with, and where you are sent.

If you are physically fit, smart, hard working, and motivated, you can serve in the elite units of either branch and you'll see about an equal amount of fighting. In general, my observation has been that the Marines typically have the jobs that are harder and more dangerous, but they don't have to do them as long. The Army may or may not always be the spearhead of the assault, but they are in there for the long haul to do the continuous fighting.

You can have a good career in either branch. I would suggest talking to several regular Marines and soldiers (NOT recruiters) and just have them tell you about their experiences. That would be the best way to make up your mind, in my opinion.

the choice is up to you, first you must decde what you want to learn and choose your mos. i would suggest somthing that will offer training that you can use after you leave the military. both branches are Americas fighting force although thay do have differences. the Marines were originaly the front assult or Expiditonary force where the Army would do the long term occupation. even today in our current conflict the marine general has said that the marines are deployed there longer than thay are designed for. The best suggestion I can give you is to take your time to decide and remember the recruter's job is to recruit you so they will tell you what you want to hear about their branch

If it was me, I'd go Marine Corps.

But which is the real fighting force? All branches of the service have their mission. They all do their fighting and defense for the same purpose. You can do well in any of them if you put your mind to it.

The Marine Corps is a much smaller force. That has it's good points and its bad points. I served as a Naval Officer with a Marine Battalion for two years. They treated me well, expected a lot from me, and I gave it to them.

which ever one you decide and when ever you get out of basic make sure you stay in top physical shape because for you to even be thought about being selected you have to score a near perfect on the pft which differs from every branch hardest being marine corps.and if you do decide to go army go deeper than just ranger because even those guys are just another number in the army try delta force instead of just ranger.and the united states marine corps. is the most elite fighting force this nation owns.because every marine goes to the school of infantry every marine is above all a "rifleman" so good luck on your choice semper fi (always faithful) & silens, celer, mortalitas (silent, swift, deadly)= force recon motto.

The marines are more first strike. The army is more occupational type stuff. They probably do about the same amount of actual fighting.
