Speed is nice in this world of instant gratification, but control is a drug also. I love being able to "process" my images without mixing any chemicals and then cleaning them up and without being sequestered in the darkroom for hours.

Digital esp. Digital SLR is the way to go full stop. I've upgraded about 18 months ago and haven't looked back. Obviously there is plenty of expense when you consider the accessories, lenses, etc but once you have what you need theres no stopping you.

In answer to your question - Speed definately. I tried to take some motorsport shots at Goodwood back in July 05 and I might as well have gone home there and then!!

On the plus side, there is nothing like being able to download, view, modify or whatever with digital. Its all instantaneous, convenient and cost effective.

Have you ever worked out just what percentage of a film you take is good? I am a motor racing photographer and I've used 15 films in a day and kept but a handful after they have been processed. That's excessive but then I daren't miss the moment and the camera runs at seven frames a second! The absolute beauty of digital is manifold:

1) the ability to download all photos onto your computer and then delete the ones that aren't any good - frankly most of them.

2) the ability to change the photo, crop in tight and eliminate the superfluous, adjust contrast and brightness and so on

3) Once you have downloaded you just wipe the memory card clean and start again. The card is after all just a computer hard disc.

Those are the main salient points and while I still have my film cameras (memories memories) I never take them out any more. Good film is getting harder and harder to get, even the good Fuji such as the 800ASA pro for ultra fast shooting in poor light.

Nope, we don't play music on circular horn machines, we don't go on holiday in shaky twin engined prop planes, and we sure won't go back to film. Rose coloured glasses are all very fine, but advances in technology have, like the dinosaur, rendered film redundant.

Well, I still enjoy 35mm photography over digital, but digial in the long run is cheaper, no waiting a week for processing and paying for it.

Hi, "sponge" - I think it's cos we like to keep up with the times. New generation means "next generation of something" meaning it does more - & more can go wrong with it!!!
