If used properly very effective, about 80% to 90%. unfortunately some guys put condoms on inside out and defeat the purpose.

You should use a foam or jelly spermacide along with a condom that has spermicide. Contraceptive foam/jelly is sold separately and comes in a box of applicators that you insert like a tampon. They are good for about an hour. They are a great backup if a condom breaks. You use it before you start intercourse.

Spermicide is 80% "effective" when applied properly...or so my health teacher back in 9th grade said.

not very effective, i'm afraid, it should be used with another contraceptive device like the condom
